Hi everyone,
I wanted to start a group for those of us who applied to SFSU for the Spring 2021 ELM-A program. I'm hoping we can share admissions updates while we await our admissions decisions...
Good luck to you all!

Have you created the FB page yet? I think it would be a great way to begin connecting!
Thanks so much!
Hey hey, so here is the link to the FB page. I will admit that I have only made a "group" once or twice before (ages ago) so if anyone has anything they want to add, please feel free! It'll be nice to have a private platform where we can exchange info and help each other out.

Hi there! Congrats to all those accepted and waitlisted. I just got my admission email as well, very exciting. I requested to join the facebook group, not sure who is the admin but I hope that’s OK! I’ve been trying to get some more information about what the Spring semester is going to look like, I’m wondering if we are expected to move to San Francisco, or if the semester will be offered online. Even if it’s online, I wonder if will need to be present for practicums or skills tests. Has anyone had any update about this?
thanks and best of luck to all of you on your nursing journey!

Hey there! Sorry to get back to you so late and glad that mmeem got back to you. I wanted at least one other admin for the group so yes, between the two of us let us know if you have any problems getting into the page. ? So glad to have gotten a few people together already!

Hey there!
I was also considering the same thing. I feel like nursing is hands on and it’s really difficult to learn these skills at home. I actually finished my undergraduate at SFSU earlier this year when the school initially closed due to COVID. It was definitely challenging and difficult to adjust and keep myself accountable for all the classes I was taking. It was also kind of a disservice to the students when the professors either didn’t know how to teach online or didn’t take the effort to understand their students needs on a virtual platform.
In general I think that online school is more challenging in general since the learning environment is so drastically different from what a lot of students are used to. For myself, I am okay with online schooling because I currently live with my mom who is a nurse, so if I were to fall behind on some hands-on aspects I can always ask her.
Hope my opinion was useful! Good Luck!
Hi,
Hope your interview went well and you got accepted into the program. Please would my sharing the route you took because I applied to the 2021 Spring BSN program but unfortunately I didn’t get in but was offered an admission to Health Education major. I am so confused about what to expect if I go that route because my goal is to be a nurse.

Hi,
If you are accepted into a BSN program, you will graduate ready to take your NCLEX and become an RN. If you take the health education route, you will graduate with a BS in Health Education and you will have to apply to a separate nursing program, whether that be an ABSN or MSN for non-nurses (the program we've applied to on this thread). Getting accepted into a BSN program is very competitive and difficult, as is any nursing program.
Personally, I was not accepted into any BSN programs during my 4 years of undergrad so I took the Health Science route and graduated with a BS. Now I am attempting to get my master's in order to receive nursing education, take my NCLEX, and work as a nurse.
I hope this was helpful for you!
Hi guys! Congratulations to those who were accepted but I'd like to remind those who are on the waitlist to check your positions/status diligently so you won't be placed in a situation like I was in.
I applied to ELMSN for Fall 2020 for the pediatrics specialty and our interviews got canceled due to COVID. The admission status was majorly influenced by our grades and experiences. Once the decisions were announced in March, I was placed 2nd on the waitlist and moved up to #1 within a week. I checked in with the SON Office every 2 weeks to see if I've been admitted, and I was consistently told I was still #1 on the waitlist. I thought with campus abruptly closed due to COVID, the whole admission process was getting delayed. Ultimately, I was accepted for USF Summer 2020 term in April, and I decided to accept my offer at USF because I didn't want to take any chances. I still checked in every week or every 2 weeks and was notified that I was still holding my position. Then came the end of May and my friend who was placed between #15-18 notified me that she was offered a spot and her cousin who was 2 seats ahead of her was also offered a spot a week ago. I was shocked and stunned. The SON Office just emailed me earlier that day and said I was still #1 on the waitlist but people further down the list were already being offered a spot? I reached out to them right away and the one who always replied to my email said they couldn't accept me anymore because the graduate department and school decided to reject me along with a very vague answer. Immediately after, I received the rejection letter from the school and not the nursing department. Now, I'm an alumnus and used to work at SFSU's graduate department office so I knew that's not how the admission worked. I was a Magna Cum Laude graduate, fulfilled all the requirements along with TEAS score, so the school can't reject me except for the department itself. I called to confirm also. I relayed the information to **** at SON and she apologized immediately and said they actually skipped me. I was floored because it was such a big deal and an opportunity of a lifetime. Then, ****** from Nursing Admissions reached out to me, apologized, and offered me a spot right away but I already started my program at USF so I had to decline. SFSU was my first choice since it's a lot cheaper and I like the APRN route, but I was already deep in USF's program.
I know it's a long story but I just wanted to raise awareness for those who are placed on the waitlist. Please check in frequently and CONFIRM your placement. Good luck everyone!

Wow thank you so much for sharing your experience! I also applied to USF for Summer as well as UCSF but SFSU was my top choice.
