Hey all,
I just wanted to start a thread for those who are applying to San Francisco State University's ABSN program at the San Marcos campus. This is for the summer 2020 start date.
Good luck to everyone applying! Let's stay in touch.
I would commit to SFSU over Samuel Merritt's June cohort in San Mateo any day. Same city, same start time, and only a smidge longer (15 months instead of 12) at half the price (40k vs 80k...a big difference for me personally. IDK about other people). Real shame that SFSU can't get its act together.
I started a FB group in case anyone wants to wait together:
1 hour ago, rt94588 said:hey everyone! just wanted to ask if you guys checked your SFSU portal and if you clicked on the "application status" link on the new student area (lower right)? does anyone else have access to that link?
I clicked on the link. It just lists the application # and when you applied, but no status on whether or not you’re accepted ?
I just want to let everyone know that the current ABSN class is advocating for the applicants. The administration originally said they will not accept students until the school could guarantee clinical placements. The students talked to them and they are now considering accepting students with a TBD start date.
Hi. This is the only thread I see for the SFSU ABSN program. Can anyone help me verify the prerequisites needed for this program? Is it Human Anatomy w/lab, Human Physiology w/lab, Stats, Microbiology w/lab, and Chemistry? I know SMU requires a lot of other courses like Nutrition, Sociology, Pysch, Pharmacology etc. Are those classes needed for the SFSU ABSN program? Thanks!

CA BRN requires theory classes and clinicals to be concurrent. Any nursing school that lets students take the theory classes first then clinicals is setting students up for disaster. They would not qualify for a CA license and would have to retake the semester.
Since nursing students are not allowed in hospitals right now, CA students are completing the 25% of clinical hours that do not require face-to-face contact with patients. We are praying that the BRN allows up to 50% of simulation so we can graduate on time.
