SF State Nursing Program, Spring 2017

Published

Hello all! I am new to this forum and had a lot of questions about the application process for nursing school, specifically SF state's program.

I'm planning on applying to their Spring 2017 program, but have heard mixed reviews about it. Is there anyone currently in their nursing program that can shed any light on it? I've heard that it's very difficult to get classes, making it almost impossible to finish the program in the advertised 2 years (takes more like 3 years). I've also heard that due to the high demand of classes and lack of availability, students end up transferring out.

My current GPA is 3.57 and I scored a 81.3% on the TEAS. I also work as a Medical Assistant for 4 years now, ranging in different types of specialties/clinics. My grades aren't as competitive as what I would like it to be, but I'm hoping that my work experience makes up for it. Should I retake my TEAS test to try and get a higher score?

If you're applying to the program, put your stats below!

Thank you all for your input!

What do you think is the dress code for the interview? How are you guys preparing for it? I wonder why it's 45 minutes long. That's pretty long. And it's kind of nerve-wracking that the instructions will be given upon arrival at interview instead of beforehand.

I've been really nervous too so nervous that my teeth hurt from subconsciously grinding on them all night :(

I would dress business casual and practice regular interview questions:up: you got this!

Btw are you AM or PM?

I'm PM. How about you? So would business casual be like slacks and a button up? Do you think black jeans are okay? Do you think bringing a backpack would be okay? Because the interview is 30 minutes after my class. If you don't mind sharing, what are your stats?

I think slacks should be the first option but if you don't have any a pair of black jeans should suffice. I'm probably going to wear a simple shirt with a cardigan over it. If ur nervous about the backpack then leave class a few mins early and put it in ur car? I'm PM too! We might be cramped in the waiting room together lol

Hi everyone!

I got called in for an interview too.

Yayyy, we made it through the first round.

I'm excited for the interview--so happy for interviews instead of personal statements.

Congrats! Is your interview on Halloween as wel?? I'm trying to gauge if we're the only ones because how many 45 minute interviews can they schedule in one day?

I was also invited to the interview.

This is not a talkative group lol

anybody else in the first round? What interview resources/questions are you guys studying/practicing?

And congrats to @Thegameisthick for getting accepted into csulb!

I'm practicing questions like:

-Tell me about yourself?

-Why do you want to be a nurse?

-What are your strengths and weaknesses?

-Why would you be a good fit?

-What makes a good nurse?

How about you? What questions are you practicing? On the interview invitation email, it says instructions will be given upon arrival. So do you think that means they don't want us to prepare and they want us to just be our natural selves? Or maybe they'll have prompts and they'll give us a certain amount of minutes to prepare for the prompts and we'll have to respond to the prompts in a certain time limit. Or maybe there's a panel interview or group interview? This is quite suspenseful because we aren't sure what to expect.

I will be there on Monday as well. "Instructions" definitely make it sound like more than a straight forward interview, but I have no idea what that means. Maybe some kind of testing, writing or exercise. I am just happy to have been invited.

Congrats! Could u post ur stats? Also, are u located in any of the surrounding counties that get priority?

im studying situational interview questions as well.

Stats are:

overall gpa 3.46

nursing gpa 4.0

teas 90%

3 years EMT experience

TBH I'm not studying any questions at all for the interview.

Now that you mentioned it, I think we might be in a group interview because 45 mins is a long time!!
