Sept 2016 RPN Programs

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello everyone!

This is my first post. I was curious who has applied for September 2016? What schools you applied to? HOAE experience? Also wanted to know if anyone knows expected avg cutoffs for sept? I've applied to Mohawk, Fanshawe, Algonquin, Niagara, and Conestoga. Have the obvious nerves about if my grades and HOAE grades are high enough. It would be nice to know others are freaking out too! :)

Don't count yourself out!

You may just be overthinking it.

With your past experienced and knowledge I'm sure you did just fine.

We're all feeling anxious about this process but I'm sure it will all work out.....I hope!

Keep us posted with your progress

I wrote my HOAE Test back in November.

Centennial College sent my sister and I our acceptances yesterday! Their program does not require you to write the HOAE Test.

I also got an offer for May 2016 Sheridan RPN Fast Track Program!

Now just need to figure out which school I should choose :( What do you guys think?

I only applied to George Brown but I found out yesterday that I got in! :) so if anyone applied to George Brown, you should be hearing soon.

Some very useful comments here, thanks for sharing.

Can anyone provide some info on Algonquin's AC-HPAT test?

I am finding it hard to find sample questions for the sciences, does the test consist of multiple choice questions + an essay?

My exam is in 2 weeks and I am stressing out a bit ... heh

I applied for Georgian college and got my acceptance yesterday.

Centennial College is an approved college, but with conditions. Sheridan is the better choice of the two. You can check here for the list of "College of Nurses Ontario" approved college's.

Practical Nursing (RPN) Programs

For anyone yet to write the HOAE: I purchased a study guide prior to my exam, which included practice tests that were timed and while this certainly helped get used to working with the added pressure of watching the clock, in all honesty, the practice questions had little to do with the actual test. If I can offer anyone who has yet to write the HOAE a word of advice it is this: They give you scrap paper, so as you do each section and answer something but are unsure, choose and answer and move on, but write the question number down on your scrap paper to go straight back to that question if you have spare time left at the end of the section. I wish I had done that but didn't think of it until the entire test was over, so I found myself scrambling to locate the questions I wanted to re-visit in the remaining free time I had, which was usually around 6-8 minutes for each section. In terms of difficulty of the exam, I feel that if you have recently done your required sciences, math and English, then you will find it very manageable.

Congrats to those with offers already! I've been checking daily but still nothing and like everyone else, I hate the waiting game lol.

Good luck to all.

Chris.

Rather than going by approved or not approved I would go by the pass rate on the CPNRE, that is a good indicator of how well a school is going to prepare you for the national exam, because you have to pass that in order to practice.

Centennial sits around a 95% pass rate every year and Seneca is in the 70s (this info is found on the CNOs website, they post a document listing all the schools and their pass rates).

Just FYI :)

Excellent point :)

Just a heads up for anyone that is in the same situation as me. ACE core math is NOT being accepted as a math credit at Mohawk. So, that leaves you a few days to get registered in another math course and put a dent in it by mid-March. Good luck

I wonder why Centennials status changed from "Approved" to "Approved with conditions". I read that it was because they failed to meet some requirements? The Centennial Practical Nursing website says that the Approved status changed back in March 2015 so this was fairly recent.

After doing some research I found that the CPNRE passing rate for Sheridan is in the 80s while Centennials is 96% however I assume this means that Centennials program is more in depth. Sheridan's graduation percentage is in the 80s but Centennials is 56%! Almost half of the students end up dropping out and not graduating!!

For those who are doing highschool prerequisites, my guidance counsellor told me that for any Practical Nursing program in Ontario they don't look at whether the course is a university course or a college course. For example getting an 80% in university math is counted the same as getting an 80% in college math.

The only exception to this is Centennial College. It is the only school that acknowledges whether you took a university highschool course or a college course. They are also the only school that does not require you to do the HOAE test.

Conestoga gives 10 additional marks for any U or U/C course, it is listed right on the website.
