Has anyone applied for the Spring 2010 term? If so have u heard back?

First term we had Fundamentals and Pharmacology for SSC, Health Assessment and Professional Socialization for UCF. Long term care and a clinical rotation at the hospital. We did the LTC first and then the clinical rotation after that was over. LTC was 2 days a week, every week for 4 weeks (maybe, don't quite remember), and then Clinicals was once a week. All the classes met once a week, but Pro. Socialization only lasted for half of the term (it's a 1 credit class). We had a lot of lab times in addition to our classes. I don't think I ever had a 5 day week of school though.

Second term (current) - Mental Health and Basic Med Surg for SSC, Professional Dimensions of Nursing for UCF. UCF is mostly online, half of the term you don't meet, the second half we meet for 2 hours, one day a week. Mental Health & BMS class is one day a week - from 8am-4pm. We have Mental Health clinicals for a total of 6-7 days (depending on how long your day is), 2 at a time, every third week, and then one extra day for those that have 7 days. Med Surg we have clinicals for 10 weeks, 1 day a week. There are a few labs, but a lot less than we had in our first term. I have 2 weeks this term that are full 5 days, and a number that I am at school 4 days.

The day before your clinical rotation (1st and 2nd term, but not the LTC and MH clinicals) you have to go to the hospital to pick up your patient information, so just because you may have that day off of classes, doesn't mean you have the full day off.

And back to studying....Best of luck!

Thanks, highvoltagegrrl! So the class schedule is basically from 8-4, right? Are you on campus later than that? Also, what was the shift schedule for clinicals? Do you have you weekends off for the most part?

Clinicals will depend on what's available at the time. I know there is one group that has their Mental Health clinical over the weekend. Just depends on the site's availability to us. We only have the one SSC class day right now - so that's the 8-4. You might be there earlier/later some days if it's a check off on lab skills. The schedule is so varied week to week and each clinical group can have different times as well. Get a planner and a calender for home so everyone can refer to that to know where you are when. I think my LTC was 7am-2pm, my Med Surg is 6:30-4:30 (but some are till 5:15). Classes can run late, they can let out early.

I'm glad to have found people that talk about the SSC Nursing program because I have a few questions.

I am currently attending (just started) SSC Altamonte Springs campus for the AA Degree Pre-Nursing to then apply for the ASN/BSN concurrent program. I don't feel the need to take as many classes as the AA degree requires to get to the RN program and trying to take the "U" turn.

I was thinking of staying on the AA program but first start taking the "pre-reqs" needed for the RN program such as A&P I and II, Microbiology, Psychology, Developmental Psy, and Nutrition. I already have English I and Statistical Methods (transfer from another school) and currently taking Gen Psy and Intro to Sogiology for Session A (Summer) and planning on taking College Algebra and English II for Session B (Summer) and hopefully Microbiology and Developmental Psychology in Fall.

So my question is, if I just take the required gen ed courses for RN Generic Track and take the TEAS test and do good (hopefully), do you think that is best to do than just finish the AA General Pre-Nursing???

I just don't feel like taking all the "not needed" classes as I believe they are unecessary.

I have graduate with AS Degree in Medical Assistant at Keiser University and they TEAS V test requirements are 76% Reading, 75% Math, 56% Science, and 70% English BUT the good thing with them is that if you don't pass ALL sections in first attempt, you can retake the sections you failed ONLY and not ALL over again. Also, they will only need to take the A&P I and II, Microbiology, Psyche, and Develop Psyche as I have all others through them (which SSC will not take them).

Any thoughts??? I just dont want to wait until around 2013 to apply for RN program.

WOW that long?? they said two weeks after the deadline which was yesterday, and i have not heard anything. I cant complain since one of my transcripts has not been evaluated, they told me it will take 3 months to evaluate. :(

3 months? All lies... Try 6 months since I provided them with my official transcripts from another school and still have not received a response.

joreyes19 - if you want to go into the concurrent program, you have to have your aa. you don't have to have it for the as program only. though most places in florida are phasing out nurses that don't have a bachelors, many aren't hiring new nurses if they don't have it or are requiring currently employed nurses to obtain their bs degree within 4-5 years.

I have just been accepted to the concurrent program and got the book list. Can anyone tell me which books I must buy for the first semester? Which one I can go with older edition to save some money? Those books are expensive.

Crazboxy, I started the concurrent program at SSC this Spring 2011. I purchased every book for SSC in the previous edition. I spent less than 100 dollars for all them.

For UCF I purchased the new edition of the orange APA workbook and the Jarvis lab book. The APA blue book was not necessary. and I used the Jarvis Textbook in previous edition.

To tell you the truth the only book I only read was the pharmacology book. The fundamental books I only touched briefly and mostly used the notes. I ended up with 3 A's and 1 B in the first semester so using the previous edition did not hurt me at all.

I just finished my 2nd semester and I also purchased previous editions for both SSC and UCF classes.

Just keep all your SCC books because you will use them again in the following semesters.

BTW, Congratulations!! :yeah:

Thanks, RedCarnation. All the books for under $100 and 3As and 1 B, that's impressive. I already bought most of the books, some new and some previous editions. Next semester, I will go for all previous editions.:lol2:

Would anyone be willing to send me the syllabi for your Fundamentals, Pharm, Basic Med-Surg, and Advanced Med-Surg classes? I am trying to transfer into the program and have to pass the final for each class to get credit. It would help IMMENSELY if I had a list of topics covered in each class. Please and thank you! :)
