  1. joreyes19 - if you want to go into the concurrent program, you have to have your aa. you don't have to have it for the as program only. though most places in florida are phasing out nurses that don't have a bachelors, many aren't hiring new nurses if they don't have it or are requiring currently employed nurses to obtain their bs degree within 4-5 years.
  2. Clinicals will depend on what's available at the time. I know there is one group that has their Mental Health clinical over the weekend. Just depends on the site's availability to us. We only have the one SSC class day right now - so that's the 8-4. You might be there earlier/later some days if it's a check off on lab skills. The schedule is so varied week to week and each clinical group can have different times as well. Get a planner and a calender for home so everyone can refer to that to know where you are when. I think my LTC was 7am-2pm, my Med Surg is 6:30-4:30 (but some are till 5:15). Classes can run late, they can let out early.
  3. First term we had Fundamentals and Pharmacology for SSC, Health Assessment and Professional Socialization for UCF. Long term care and a clinical rotation at the hospital. We did the LTC first and then the clinical rotation after that was over. LTC was 2 days a week, every week for 4 weeks (maybe, don't quite remember), and then Clinicals was once a week. All the classes met once a week, but Pro. Socialization only lasted for half of the term (it's a 1 credit class). We had a lot of lab times in addition to our classes. I don't think I ever had a 5 day week of school though. Second term (current) - Mental Health and Basic Med Surg for SSC, Professional Dimensions of Nursing for UCF. UCF is mostly online, half of the term you don't meet, the second half we meet for 2 hours, one day a week. Mental Health & BMS class is one day a week - from 8am-4pm. We have Mental Health clinicals for a total of 6-7 days (depending on how long your day is), 2 at a time, every third week, and then one extra day for those that have 7 days. Med Surg we have clinicals for 10 weeks, 1 day a week. There are a few labs, but a lot less than we had in our first term. I have 2 weeks this term that are full 5 days, and a number that I am at school 4 days. The day before your clinical rotation (1st and 2nd term, but not the LTC and MH clinicals) you have to go to the hospital to pick up your patient information, so just because you may have that day off of classes, doesn't mean you have the full day off. And back to studying....Best of luck!
  4. Cryst342 - let me change my previous answer to "it's totally possible!" I just got the call from UCF that a seat opened up in the concurrent program and they offered it to me - so now I am in. (I would think that would open up a seat in the generic program, since I've been switched, but not sure if that's how that works or not.) Good luck!
  5. I'm sure it's possible for an alternate to get in. Would just depend if someone that got in didn't fill their spot for any reason (personal, maybe applied for multiple schools at the same time, etc.). I haven't known anyone personally that got in after being an alternate though.
  6. Congrats Accepted!!! I got into the regular program, waitlisted for the concurrent (I still have 3 classes of prereq/aa courses to take). Another friend is into the regular program as well - we finished pre-req's in Spring 2009.
  7. Anyone else get their letters for the August 2010 term yet?
  8. You'd have to check with SSC and see if they will accept them, it will depend on the codes for the classes and how long ago you took them (if they aren't embedded in a degree). I believe you can check the codes (class numbers) on the FACTS.org website to see if they equal out to the same coursesthat SSC requires, but I would still suggest meeting with a counselor that can look over your credits to determine what you will continue receiving credit for.
  9. I used the book from the company that made the test - ATI Testing. I think I bought it directly from their website. Thanks & Good Luck to you too!
  10. Hey JJ! We sure do know one another. :) I did take the TEAS, but I studied for a number of weeks before I took the test. I got the studyguide and went through every question so that I would be prepared. I hadn't finished Micro, A&P 1 or A&P 2 when I took the test, so I wanted to be sure I had a clue about the types of questions they were going to ask. I'm not the best at Math either, so reviewing all of that before taking it was helpful. I really do suggest the study guide, but you've already taken it, so you know what's on it. Maybe you can just spend a couple hours at the bookstore looking over the questions/answers instead of having to fork over money for a guide. Unfortunatley the last day to apply for the Fall 2010 term was last Friday, so that sucks that you won't be applying this go around. Have you been to the info session recently? I went again in Feb. and they were saying how more and more seats are going to the concurrent students and less to the Generic RN program. I've applied for both programs, but still working on finishing my AA through the summer.
  11. You will be in the Category one as far as having all of your pre-req's done and having a 3.0 or above. For the last admission term (Spring 2010) they had only gotten down to a few that finished their pre-req's in Spring 2009. So for the Fall 2010 term, they should be letting in more people of Category 1 that finished their pre-req's in Spring of 2009 (or earlier) and then moving on to Category 1 that finished in Summer of 2009 if there is still room. I'm in Category 1 - this will be my third time applying for the program! I've not gotten in so far because I didn't finish my pre-req's until Spring 2009.
  12. Thanks MellBell - I had gotten a C in that Psych class back in the day. Blah! Well I am still in Category 1, so I'm just hoping for the August term. I applied to the Resp. Therapy program last time I didn't get in and got in to that program, but turned it down after thinking about it. Will have to think about (again) it for next time. Who are you taking for Chemistry now?
  13. MsBWell - sorry to hear you didn't get in this time. It's a struggle. WAGGS - ******* **** is supposed to be a great chemistry instructor. I'm taking her next term. From other students I've heard she takes the time to be sure the students understand what's going on. She has some of the better reviews on ratemyprofessors.com for Chem teachers at SCC. I didn't know you could retake the pre-req classes for a better GPA for this program. Man, I should have done that with the Psych class I took, many, many, many years ago before I was serious with school. Unfortunately taking a class in Spring I don't think it will be over in time for the next applications. There is a notice on the nursing program handout that says "illegal repeat courses can not be used in the recalculated GPA". What is an illegal repeat course?
  14. Lizstory - is that what ***** said? Be sure that it wasn't just a mistake before you get down on yourself. Not getting in sucks, sucks, sucks, and waiting, sucks, sucks, sucks. I know you've been waiting longer, so just want to be sure you get all the info before resorting to what else you can do with all the classes you've had.
  15. Lizstory - I would contact ***** ASAP to find out what's going on. Let her know you met all the critera and see what she says. My stepsister went to Fl Hospital as well, she loved it too. I looked and I would need Chemistry, Religion, Fitness, and Microcomputers. So basically I wouldn't be able to get into the nursing program until Aug 2010 either. Blah!
