Seminole Community College Evening/ Weekend program

Published

Good Evening,

I will be applying to SCC Evening/Weekend program in the spring of 2010. I was wondering if anyone started the program this month and will share with me your schedule and how is the work load. I am so excited and anxious to start:D

HI there , I am considering registering at Scc for this program also. I am unable to get out of work before 4.30pm and I can't afford not to work wish I could!. Don't want to give up on going for the RN and I am also worried about the pre req classes I am terrible at math!!! Do you have any advice , thanks so much

Hey,

This is my suggestion, if you are serious about pursing a nursing degree, then you should start your pre-reqs and don't worry about working and the nursing program right now. When you are ready to apply then you can cross that bridge when you get to it. Like yourself, I work full time Mon -Fri 8-5pm and cannot afford not to work however, If I have to take a job as a CNA to accomodate the school hours I will do that, but for now I am plugging away at my pre-reqs. Also, I was never good at math and I had to start at the basic math prep classes when I started. I am now taking my third and last Algebra class and they were not so bad. I received an A my first two classes and I should have a B in my last class which ends in two weeks. If it's something you want to achieve, buckle down and apply yourself and you will be fine, I guarantee. The college offers free math tuitoring at the campus if you need additional help.

HEY everyone i found out that this program requires lower net scores so i am really happy, but it says that it has 3 prereqs but doesn't list them what are they?

Does anyone know what is the GPA cutoff for this program?

The evening/weekend program at SCC is a RN program not a LPN. The only have a full time day program for LPN's, which only requires 3 pre-req's however, SCC has discontinued the NET test and switched to the TEAS test.

Does anyone know what is the GPA cutoff for this program?

Minimum GPA is 3.5, however, it is advised to get as close to 4.0 as possible. SCC does not have a wait list for their nursing programs so it is very competitive. Eligiblility is considered based on all pre-reqs completed, TEAS score and GPA.

Thank you Rholman! Are you applying for January? What have you heard about the program? Have you considered Valencia's program?

Unfortunately, I am not applying for January. It was my original intent to apply for January but applications are due this August and I will be short 4 classes when I submit my application, I will be taking my last 2 pre-reqs spring of 2010. I work full time so the evening program is ideal for me but I don't think I will wait for 2011. I will apply for the day program starting august of 2010, quit my job if I get in and work as a CNA during school. With that in mind I will probably apply at Valencia too, however, I will be short 1 class for Valencia "student success". I will speak with their counselor after summer semester. Valencia has a great reputation and they are closer to my home. They offer 3 programs a year, all full time day but I hear they have a waiting list. SCC has a great reputation as well and the Nursing program is located in a brand new building with state of the art Nursing equipment.

What about you?

I will be done with my pre -recs this summer, then I'll apply to Valencia and SCC. The only thing that I don like about Valencia is that waiting list. Apparently the waiting time is two terms, meaning that if I apply in August I will probably start Nursing School in May 2010. On the other hand SCC doesnt have a waiting list which is good but is a little harder to get in. At this point I just want to finish the pre-recs and go N. School, so I can quit my 8-5 receptionist job that I hate with passion.

Good Luck, at least we have options, hopefully you will get in SCC this fall. I have a few questions:

Did you attend the SCC Nursing Orientation

When do you submit your application for this fall

What is your current GPA

Did you take the TEAS's test?

If you have a good teas score and your GPA is good you should get in SCC. They have 100 seats

I went to the SCC orientation, it was long but very informative. I will apply for January 2010 (evening/weekend program)the application period is September 15-25/ 2009.

My current GPA 3.40, but they take in consideration your recalculated GPA(only pre-recs grades) that means that if I do good this summer I will have 3.50

I have not taken the TEAS, I'm still preparing for the NET, I 'll take it this month so I can apply to Valencia's program in August. During the orientation they talked about the TEAS, many students were saying that the hardest part is Science.

To be honest with you I don't have a preference between VCC or SCC, If I don't get into SCC I'll just have to wait for VCC. It would be nice to start in January!!!!!

The GPA needed to apply for the program is a recalculated 2.5, but that doesn't mean you will get in with that GPA, it's just the minimum they state on their website and at the Nursing Information Sessions.

The TEAS is pretty decent, I suggest getting the study guide for it, especially if, like me, you take the test before you finish A&P 2 and aren't great at math. (My last math class was so many years ago!!!) The test is broken down into timed sections. So you do all the math in one time portion, then the reading, the spelling, and the science. You can go back and look over your answers, but only in that section, before you submit, even on the computerized version of the test.
