Selling books on Amazon...

Published

I'm going to sell my Chemistry book back to Amazon, I bought it new with the online access code. I did use the access code, but when I went to look at what they wanted they asked for it back with my book. I'm confused because I used it so can someone else use it after me? And if not then will the price they quoted me for go down?

I don't think so because it is generally assumed the access codes aren't good if the book is used. It won't matter for a lot of people because the access codes are usually optional.

The access code you used is now linked to you specifically and will not be able to be used my anyone else. You can still try to sell the book but chances are whoever purchases it will have to also buy another access code which is almost if not as expensive as buying the two together. So it's really not any kind of deal for the purchaser. Hope this helps!!

Instead of selling it back to Amazon, sell it on Amazon Marketplace. That's what I did with some of my textbooks after this last semester.

Like the previous poster, I highly recommend that you sell it on Amazon Marketplace than selling it to Amazon. I've found that for many of my books, selling it to Amazon would result in very little money whereas selling it under the used category would give me back a substantial amount. You can note that the access code is used when you put the book up for sale. Prices also tend to increase when the school year starts, so I would advise you to hold off selling it if you could and don't need the money at the moment unless your book edition is old.
