hello everyone,

got a question. when applying for the 2012 nurse corp selection boards, are all the applicants all over the country competing with eachother or do you compete with just your region? i was told there were only 22 slots and if we are competing with the whole country-OMG! waiting on an answer sucks. my recruiter has a back up plan for me if i dont get picked the first time for the med/surg but hopefully I do, and good luck to everyone else as well. talk to you all soon.

Thanks 2012RN2b! There was a thread started for August COT so I posted there as well.

Yay! Congratulations ATLRN0828!! You will have to let us know how COT is! Was Japan one of your first choices? I hope I'll be joining you sometime next year!

Hey UCAFblue...

Thank you! I sure didn't have to wait toolong to get off the alternate list. I will definitely keep in contact and let ya'll know how COT is. Japan was one of my top 3 for overseas. I'm really surprised I got Japan because I was told that they usually don't send newbies overseas; but it could happen. I'm excited but very nervous. Hope to see ya next year!!!

Hey everyone,

Just found these postings. I was told to not even put down any overseas assignments. Trust me i wanted to!! I got picked up. Is everyone on here new nurses or have been practicing nurses?

To ATLRN, are you a new nurse or you have been practicing? Are you coming in as a clinical nurse??

Is anyone going into a clinic?

For the person stationed at Langley, that is a pretty nice base. I live near there. The hospital isn't very big. People there are pretty nice.

Good luck to everyone. Looking forward to any feedback. Also, is anyone going to Barksdale in Louisiana?

Thanks

Hey MsRN2You,

I live near Langley AFB. Pretty nice base. The people there are nice as well. It's not a big hospital. They have been doing some renovations but its fairly nice inside. Did you have this one on your list? I didn't get anything that i put on my list. Most people are saying they got at least one on their list.

Are you coming in under a specialty? or clinical nurse? Do you know what department you are going in to?

Hello,

Has anyone on here for Aug COT been commissioned yet??

Did your recruiter say you had to do it right away? Did everyone get at least one of the places they chose?

MBRN74,I have been a nurse for 5 years and will be coming in as a clinical nurse (med/surg). My recruiter didn't say not to put down overseas locations. I was able to put whatever on the "wish list". I had, I think 6 US places and 5 overseas locations. I was #1 on the alternate list, so I guess I just got lucky. I just found out yesterday so no I haven't been commissioned yet and she really hasn't said anything about that. I do have to sign and return my letter of acceptance though. You are right, Langley is really nice (I asked for Langley specifically on my wish list). My brother was born there a long long time ago (he's 21). Where are you going? What did you have on your list? What specialty are you coming in as?Talk to ya soon...

Hi ATL,

I am coming in as a clinical nurse as well, i'm not sure designated as med/surg though? I need to ask about that. I have been a nurse over 14 years. Were you working in med/surg or what dept were you in? I'm not sure why i was told not to put any overseas locations. I wish i had done so now. REally bothers me. What state are you in? So you asked for Langley?? Yeah, the area is nice and surrounded by water and lots of military. I'm supposed to be going to Louisiana? I had pretty much all the major hospitals on my list. I just wish i had put down overseas now. Who knows maybe they would have sent me with you! I put down Lackland, travis, keesler, eglin and some other place in florida. I picked those because they were all hospitals. I feel bad now because had i put the overseas locations with hospitals then maybe i would have gotten one of those. That would have been great. I just got told not to worry about overseas. I should have known better. Oh well. Im happy you get to go there though. Thanks for replying back.

If you need or have specifics then you can PM me. Oh yeah by the title of yours i'm taking making you are near atlanta? haha....

I actually have been doing hem/onc for the past 5 years. What field are you working in? On my wish list I did put Langley down but it wasn't my top choice. What has your recruiter said is the next step for you?

I have been in a step down type unit. Well, just saying i need to be commissioned soon? What about you? Are you going to a clinic or a hospital? Do you know what you will be doing? Have you been commissioned already? I was surprised about trying to commission this soon since COT is later in the year. Will you be coming in as a 1st Lt ?
