hello everyone,

got a question. when applying for the 2012 nurse corp selection boards, are all the applicants all over the country competing with eachother or do you compete with just your region? i was told there were only 22 slots and if we are competing with the whole country-OMG! waiting on an answer sucks. my recruiter has a back up plan for me if i dont get picked the first time for the med/surg but hopefully I do, and good luck to everyone else as well. talk to you all soon.

Ahhh OK, I was not sure what NTP was. Got it. I will be going to COT as a 1st Lt then Capt after one year. ALTRN0828, I have been reading the same, COT then NTP. I would imagine that you will be ranked up also.

Hey RN4Life2,

So do we automatically make Capt after one year or is it when you have been a nurse for 6yrs? Feb. 2013 I will be a nurse for 6 yrs, so is that when I will become Capt?

It is based from a calculation of combined time in service and time as a nurse. Unfortunately they only take half the time as a nurse into consideration. I would ask the recruiter for further details and they should be able to give you an idea of what grade you would be going in as.

Hey LN75,

I accepted the friend request as well. Good luck with your upcoming boards. Let us know how it goes. Oh, since you've been a nurse for a while why did you do the NTP boards instead of fully qualified (just asking because I don't know the requirements for the NTP board)? And I believe that you will go to COT first, the NTP training, then your first duty station (that's just what I gathered from reading other posts). Talk to ya soon! :)

I've only been a nurse for a few months. Graduated Dec 2011, got licensed in Idaho Jan 2012, so that's why I fall into the NTP category rather than the FQ. To qualify to apply to the FQ board you need to have been a RN for a minimum of 1 year. That will be my next plan though if I dont get selected this July in the NTP board…and if I have to apply to a FQ board, I'm sure I'll have more questions for you haha!

I'll be coming in as an 1Lt. I'm sure my recruiter did explain it but I probably forgot with all the information that was given to me.

Thanks for clarifying the whole NTP qualification LN75.

I had my interview 2 weeks ago, felt it went very well. Had my physical 2 days ago- passed. I have 5 yrs enlisted as a navy corpsman and 10 yrs nursing experience. Coming in, if selected, as an ER nurse. My recruiter is telling me I won't have an answer until may 25 and if selected will go to COT in July or August... Any feedback, seems like a long time to hear for an answer. And he also told me there was only one selection board a year... Seems like I am reading that people are being selected multiple times a year. Thank u

Once the packets are submitted, the last board I was considered for we found out about 3 weeks later, depending on your recruiter.

Now as far as only one board, there are different boards for the different specialties. I am a re-submit for ER and I believe this is the last critical care board for FY2012. Don't quote me on that, but I know there is more than one board because there was one in January, but from what I can tell it was for Med/Surg and L&D.

There is another thread on here for AF April/May 2012 board. So far it's just 2 of us chatting and we both had almost identical experiences with the last board we submitted to. You would be the third, and ironically, we're all going for ER. Come on over and chat.

The board met February 8th and the estimated results date was Feb. 28th I think. I just found out about 2 weeks ago because I was on the alternate list. I applied for med/surg.
