i was looking for some honest feedback on where is a good place to work in vegas. i will be moving this summer and wanted to research my options. i currently work at a level 2 trauma hospital. i come from a 16 bed icu that cares for all types of critical care patients. i would like to continue in this type of icu that sees all different specialties, but understand bigger hospitals have different critical care areas. looking for a place with great environment and support, close knit team, great benefits and educational opportunities. any information would be greatly appreciated!:)

Sunrise is the #1 consumer voted hospital in Las Vegas.
It was also listed in a USA Today top 100 hospitals
report.

Sunrise and UMC are larger level I and level II trauma centers, they have specialized ICUs. The St Rose Dominican Hospital system is a nonprofit Catholic organization with 3 hospitals. Smaller, may have the mixed ICU you. The Valley System is about the size of St. Rose and may again have that mixed ICU setting. I've worked at three of these. St Rose pays the best & the staff seems content, Sunrise (HCA facilities - they have three hospitals) pays about medium, the Valley System probably pays the worst of the three. I would recommend signing up with an agency and floating to a few different hospitals. It seems like different people like different environments. In general I haven't had a big issue with satisfaction at any of them. There will always be issues at any facility you work at.

I worked in the trauma department at University Medical Center for years and loved it. It is an excellent hospital with lots of educational opportunities. The trauma department has a resuscitation department, an adult ICU, a burn center, and a pediatric trauma unit. The only disadvantage is it is a county hospital so everything is public.
I highly recommend you apply UMCSN.com. If you have any questions message me.

Hi CENFROMLV! I am looking into applying at St. Rose as they always have a need in NICU. I have a nicu experience for 12years, I heard its a unionized hospital, have you worked there? Would you know if they cancel nurses a lot of times. THanks.

I have never worked at St Rose, but my nurse buddies who have, canceling has not been a problem lately. Census is up even though it should be the low season in vegas, so I don't think canceling has been a big problem anywhere lately.
thanks! it motivates me more to move there, I am NICU nurse and I saw a lot of opening in the NICU recently in Las Vegas.

Does UMC have electronic medical records or do they still chart on paper?

I've heard they still chart on paper.
Ugh. I loathe paper charting:(
