Seeking overseas nursing program contacts

Hello everyone:

I am a nursing instructor at a community college in Milwaukee, WI.

As part of my dissertation (which seems never ending) I am seeking to collaborate (using Skype in the Classroom) with nursing students around the world.

How it works: Your nursing students or nursing class would Skype for 30-45 minutes with nursing students here, to share information about each other's cultures. The purpose is to broaden cultural knowledge and awareness in nursing students. You would need a computer and projector and a Skype (free!) connection to communicate with us.

I have arranged several Skypes so far, but am looking for more. I can be flexible with the time zone. This is meant to be an enlightening but also fun experience to have a "virtual" chat with our nursing friends around the globe.

Sample questions (based on the work of Rachel Spector) for the Skype session are:

How do you celebrate the birth of a baby? A wedding?

When someone in your family is ill, who cares for them? What foods are prepared?

What illnesses or diseases are common in your community/area/region/country?

Can you describe the healthcare system in your community/area/region/country?

As a family member is approaching death, what rituals do you find comforting?

How are nurses educated in your country? How is the profession perceived in your country?

What do you think a nurse should know about your culture if a family member is hospitalized?

Hello - this sounds interesting and useful. I remember this sort of interaction when I was in nursing school at a community college, but it was with the ESL class at the same school. ESL students who were interested in practicing their English with nursing students signed up to meet with us and we asked similar questions. It was eye-opening for us and apparently a useful conversational experience for the ESL students. It became a popular activity.

You might contact some military nurses also. Cleveland Clinic overseas has many American nurses working in AbuDabi who work with the nationals.
