Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

What email did you guys use to find out what wait list group you were in?

What email did you guys use to find out what wait list group you were in?

The connect nursing one that was at the bottom of the email they sent yesterday.

Oh I did not think to send a email to that address because it said if you wish to be removed from the wait list then to email that email address.

I emailed general admissions about it, I haven;t heard back yet and don;t really expect to as that email address is only for general inquiries.

But thank you

That was exactly what I thought too, but when I hadn't heard back, I decided to resend the email to the connect nursing address and they responded within a couple of hours.

Hey guys, so since I haven't heard back from UofT, I thought maybe my final marks weren't sent so I called my university and they confirmed that the final transcript was, in fact, sent. I called UofT and had a lengthy conversation with someone from the admissions office.

First of all, I didn't realize I was supposed to send my final marks through OUAC. What I did was go to my university's registrar's office and have it sent directly to the university. The person at UofT said it's ok, although submitting through OUAC is the preferred method. She said if I haven't received an email that they're missing my transcript then it means they have it.

Second, she can't tell anyone about our spot on the waitlist. By June 30th we're all aware we're getting 1 of 3 answers (offer, rejection, waitlist). I don't recall who mentioned the whole 1st group on the waitlist would get in, but I asked her about the groups and she said that not the entire group gets an offer nor is there a ranking among the people within the group; it's more of a random process.

Anyway, I hope that shed a bit of light. To those of us still waiting - I'm holding my fingers for all of us! To those who got a rejection - I'm so sorry to hear that :( and good job to those who already got an offer!

Thanks so much for sharing akpl! Did she happen to mention any particular reason as to why some have heard back and others like us haven't? I guess I had just assumed this would be more of an automated process and everyone would hear back about rejection and wait listing at the same time.

Thanks for sharing @akpl

No problem!

No, she only said that everyone will know by June 30 for sure. I guess those who received an offer/waitlist clearly fit what they want, those who got a rejection aren't as competitive as the rest of the pool (no offence), and those who haven't heard back yet are still being compared and considered.. so we're the group that's not quite yes, not quite no :(

I also forgot to mention that those who get waitlisted can wait all the way through to Sept. 5th if all the spots don't fill up by then.

Can I ask what number you called them through? This is amazing that you could have such a lengthy conversation with them since I do not find them helpful in responding concrete answers to questions throughout email.

Am I allowed to leave a phone number here?

I don't think it would be a problem.

I am pretty sure it is not allowed
