I am a Registered Nurse for more than 2 years now. I applied to write the CRNE which is an exam for eligibility in British Columbia. However, I still need to undergo SEC Assessment. Has anyone experienced the same? If so what were the preparations needed? I will highly appreciate your suggestions.

Hey there everyone!!!
If some one knows do we RNs who passed SEC and did Suplementray education need 250 hours supervised work expiriance befor we could get our Provisory Licens?????
Its written like this in Guide for IEN from CRNBC that at first you need 250 supervised hours and then you could get your Provisory Licens!!!
Does someone has an expiriance???
Regards
Stelz
Hi Stelz,
that's not correct. Only with Provisional Registration you are allowed to
work supervised in the Province you have applied to.
I have my Mastery in Psychomotor Skills and now I will receive the application for Provisional Registration.
Quote from my assessment letter:
You must provide CRNBC with a reference from a Canadian employer for whom you have worked under provisional registration for 250 hours. You may work on this requirement before and/or after you write the CRNE.
The self-assessment form is a very important part of the assessment in BC.I have saved the PDF file, but as far as I know I am not allowed to send up that file.
If you want to prepare for the self-assessment form, go through BC's Professional Standards, Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics.
A question may be: How would you show accountability in your nursing practice?
Hope that helps.

Hi Mona77,
I'm going to take SEC assessment in a couple of month but I just realized that I haven't received self-assessment form. It should be attached when the confirmation letter from IENBC as you mentioned.
I guess I need to request to send it. Is that the only way I can get the document?
Thank you,
Tohco
Hi mona,Im about to take my SEC nxt month, could u elaborate more what happenns during OSCE,triple jump and clinical skills judgment?im really nervous and anxious.what are the diseases that i need to focus on,what skills i need to master and what topic did they give u during the triple jump?thank you so much
I just reconformed my sec assessment for May 2011.
You have to sign a paper NOT to ventilate about this for 2 years!
I mean you can tell about the procedure, but not the content.
So no subjects.
I am a bit nervous too, but when you have the right books to prepare and the example of the website, everything will be alright.
I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding about the SEC. The assessors want to see how you practice nursing. They want to know the level of your understanding of how care should be delivered and how you process and integrate information into your care. They're looking at the knowledge base you have been provided through your education and experience as a nurse as it applies to all the spheres of nursing, since newly-graduated Canadian nurses will have been given a minimum amount of training in each of the five usual areas. These are medicine, surgery, mental health, obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics. They aren't testing you on your actual skills, but on how much you already know. A little refresher in the areas you've not really used in your practice is fine, but a full in-depth re-education isn't necessary.
can anybody tell me that how many months earlier IEN services of bc sent sec assessment confirmation mail? for example if a person is booked for sec in deccember.then approximatly in which month might be told about this confirmed date......... kindly guide me friends according to your experience.
