Hi
I have been informed by Mt Royal College, that they had a cancellation next week and can fit me in for the SEC IEN assessment. I am like WWWWW HHHHHAAATTTTTT and thought I will give it a shot. However, I am not prepared. I question thou, is anyone prepared for these assessments.?
Should I just have the attitude, You can only do your best?
I dont know really, I am in shock knowing its next week now, no prep and going in like guns blazing?????
Assessment in OB and Peds? I have no idea now, so what difference would it make for next week?
Any ideas or advice?
Kylie
thanks janfrn, am sure got a lot of preparations to do. i am grateful though that crnbc granted my request for a re-entry program and i'll be starting this may 2009 (1st semester), surely this program will help me upgrade and get into the right track. i asked for a reschedule on my sec assessment, hoping that by then somehow i can already be confident enough to take it, though they are giving me only until jan. 14, 2010.
god will surely see me through!
Hi
I have read your posts regarding SEC assessment, really helpful!
I am still confused about the clinical as well as tripple jump. Also, about the critical thinking scenarios- are
they really difficult or somewhat easy. If you can remember some the overall questions in your exam, please
let me know. I will highly appreciate your concern.
THANX.
Hello!
I am from France, applying for registration in BC, and the CRNBC asked me to do a SEC in General nursing (medicine+surgery) which I am doing next week...
I received a self assessment form to complete, am a bit confused about it, could anyone help me with it? do I have to provide examples of my experience (I'm afraid I'm going to repeat myself in each question...) could anyone tell me what they put on the form??
thanks!!
hi! thanks to everyone who's been sharing their experiences in SEC. i'll be taking it too this september (all 4 areas)... i had been adviced by the others who are preparing for the exam to read mosby's or lippincott's comprehensive review to acquaint myself in the canadian setting...
i'd like to ask if you know how to answer the self assessment form. i've read that they want evidences. does it mean that i need to tell them how i do things in the hospital? do i have to add my rationale for doing such actions?
hope you guys can help me... thanks a lot!

i think you'll find that the cards are stacked against you. the fact that you graduated five years ago and have never actually practiced nursing will make the sec very difficult. it will also make finding employment here a real challenge. employers are more interested in hiring people who, with a minimum of support and accommodation, will be able to hit the floor running and take on the same responsibilities as all the other nurses there. canadian hospital nursing is a high-tech, very complex working environment and to be successful the nurse needs every educational and skill advantage available. i wish you luck, and hope you're realistic enough to know it's not going to be easy.
