Hey everyone! I didn't see a thread for 2019's transfer cohort hopefuls so I figured I'd start one. Everyone get their applications submitted on time? :)

Hello everyone!
I am having a lot of anxiety about the admission process.
Previously have a BA in Communications, GPA 3.2.
Still need Stats/Chem/Micro. I would say my prereq GPA is a 3.5.
I work at Harborview as a CNA, and have been at several facilties in the area. As well as 2 hospitals in Southern CA & a CA hospice facility.
Long story short, I want to be an RN because I have an autoimmune disease. I had an awesome care team that got me back on the path to remission. It took a few years of soul searching to figure out that I am called to be a nurse. Now that I am stronger again physically, I want to be able to give back to patients.
If I get As in Stats/Chem/Micro, do you think I have a chance of getting in? Plan on applying at the end of this year, with courses still in progress. Hopefully that won't impact my admission decision either.
Congrats to all, reading these posts really push me to keep going. Hopefully someone can answer my questions out there. Thank you in advanced.

Hey Purpleapple428,
I would say with your current job and past experiences along with your good pre-req and overall GPA's you will likely be plenty competitive for the next cohort application! I finished my BS in Psych back in 2008 with a 3.05 GPA, I completed a certificate program which bumped my cumm GPA to about 3.3. I also had to retake all the pre-req's because they were out of date which I managed to get A's in all of them. This again bumped my Cumm GPA up to about 3.5 or so. With lots of help from my fellow nurse coworkers I received a great letter of recommendation for one of my applications and they helped me edit and work out my application essays! Multiple edits, notes, and re-writes. I think that was the biggest help, I managed to get accepted into two of the three programs I applied to, Seattle U and UW! Expound on your reasons for wanting to be a nurse now, I too took many years and several other fields of study to get to this point in my life and career choice. Just be honest and forthright about what you want and have to contribute to the field and I think you will do great! Good Luck!

Ahh thank you so much for responding! I really appreciate it. I feel a lot better about the application process. I am going to put my head in the game and really focus on getting in. I want to have as much drive as possible so I can finally accomplish my goal of becoming an RN!
I also wanted to ask, I've been reading the prereq list over and over just to make sure I'm ok. All we need is college/intermediate algebra & statisitics, right? It's saying that the math prereq cannot be satified with statistics, but I thought that's all the math you needed....does that mean I need pre-calc or something like that?!
@purpleapple428 Sorry this took so long to reply I didn't see the question initially. When I retook my math pre-reqs I did Math 138 which is College algebra for business and social sciences and Math 130 which is Introduction to Statistics both through Bellevue College. I took them both online. SU doesn't say anything about a time limit like UW has but if you want to apply to more than one school I would check to make sure your courses meet the minimum GPA requirements as well as any time limits that other schools may have in case you need to retake anything. It does say College algebra or Pre-calculus (this is the general math requirement) AND Statistics (this is also required by nearly all nursing programs) and at least one of them needs to be completed before the application deadline. It actually also specifies that at least 7 of the 10 courses need to be completed by the application deadline which. of those 7 one must be one of the math classes and one must be either A&P I, II, or Microbiology. Again UW has time limits on their pre-req list so if you are interested in applying there check their website against your courses! Hope this helps!

I could be wrong but I think it’s the opposite. For SU, your math class has to be taken within 10 years of starting and your stats and science classes within 5 years. I’m stuck retaking general biology right now before I start SU in the fall since I took it 12 years ago:( I don’t think there is actually an expiration date of prerequisites for UW (at least there wasn’t when I applied last year). @purpleapple428 there is also an awesome course equivalency guide online for both schools that will tell you if the math class you have will satisfy the math credit. For me, I took Math 116 which was fine for both SU and UW. Good luck on your endeavors and don’t give up!

I did take Intermediate Algebra in 2014.
I am going to register for Stats next week and plan to take it during this summer quarter. The way that the website words the Stats requirement is funny. But I am relieved to know that my Algebra is good for another 6 more years.
For UW, I can only do the ABSN as I have a Bachelor's. It is a very rigourous program (as we all know). I have to work....I would be homeless if I didn't work during programs? Plus they want OChem and I really want to apply/get in as fast as I can without having to take a bunch of classes...lol...
I appreciate your responses to me!! ?
