Seattle University (Seattle U) BSN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone, it might be a little early but I wanted to start a forum for SU's 2021 BSN applicants! I'm applying as a transfer student from a community college in California. I'm curious about everyone else's experience as a pre-nursing student and the schools they plan on applying to.

I've yet to complete my organic Chemistry course (my school doesn't offer one course with both organic and inorganic) and my pre-calculus course to satisfy the prerequisites. Right now I'm trying to find volunteer work, but with the pandemic, there's not much out there.

Feel free to share anything, I'm super curious about everyone's stats!

Hey all! I remember commenting on last year's thread for SU 2022, and this platform is definitely helpful once everything gets rolling (deadlines, interviews, etc). I was accepted into the SU BSN program and I just wanted to offer assistance with anything! I can look over resumes, essays, etc. If you have any questions you can tag me on here!

Hi,

Thank you for offering to help. I am currently working on my essay and would you mind share any tips to write a good essay. I was wondering what kind of nurse that SU is looking for?

@brendamatadiaz what were your stats when you applied to seattle U, also were you a transfer?

Hi!

Assuming the prompt is the same as last year's, I would try and incorporate personal experiences in your essay! Personally, I focused on the mission and why my beliefs aligned with the school's mission. I did incorporate one healthcare experience in my essay, but I would be cautious because there is a word limit. I don't believe SU is looking for any particular kind of nurse, I would say you discover what kind of nurse you want to be during the nursing program.

Hi!

I applied to SU as a transfer student from Bellevue College. When I applied to SU my GPA was 3.94, I had roughly 600 hours of healthcare experience, and I had a couple of volunteer hours. I would check out previous SU BSN pages on allnurses.com to see other student's stats so that you can get a bigger picture!

Hey! On your resume you should list all your paid healthcare experience and volunteer experience. In your case, I would try and seek out opportunities, but if you can't find any then I wouldn't worry too much. Sure it's an important aspect but you do have healthcare experience and that counts too! I believe my cohort has 80-90 members total!

Thanks so much for the advice! I was curious to know you felt the program was in regard to the development of practical skills (catheter insertion, IV placement, dressing central lines, wound dressing) I've heard previously that skills like that aren't introduced until the senior year.

@LJ15 I'm in the class right now that teaches you all the practical skills. So far we've been going at a pretty good pace and we'll be starting catheter insertion, IV, etc in the upcoming weeks. And, this is my first quarter in the nursing program so the skills were introduced right off the bat!

Hi all!

I’m also applying to Seattle U’s program as a postbacc student! I’m just about to graduate with my BS in Biology from UC Davis, and I have experience working as a student research assistant at my local hospital as well as a personal attendant for adults with developmental disabilities in my area. Can’t wait to hear more about the admissions process!

@Anhton Thank you for offering your help! I am currently a student at Highline college and I am applying to the SU's BSN program. I am really nervous about my essay.

@brendamatadiaz

thank you so much for offering your help! Could you email me at [email protected]? I’d love to ask you a few questions!
