Seattle University (Seattle U) BSN Fall 2021

Published

Hi everyone, it might be a little early but I wanted to start a forum for SU's 2021 BSN applicants! I'm applying as a transfer student from a community college in California. I'm curious about everyone else's experience as a pre-nursing student and the schools they plan on applying to.

I've yet to complete my organic Chemistry course (my school doesn't offer one course with both organic and inorganic) and my pre-calculus course to satisfy the prerequisites. Right now I'm trying to find volunteer work, but with the pandemic, there's not much out there.

Feel free to share anything, I'm super curious about everyone's stats!

I'll be there!

Hi all!

I also applied and been following along, this thread has been so helpful. Good luck to everyone who has been accepted. I found out yesterday that I've been waitlisted. Keeping my fingers crossed and I hope I get to meet all of you one day!

Hi @breannaholman,

I just wanted to reach out and congratulate you on being waitlisted for the program. I know it's not the news you probably wanted to hear but don't lose hope. I am a current student in the Transfer '22 cohort and I was waitlisted last year in March. Most waitlisted students, including myself, received a spot over the Summer but a handful of students got in the week before fall quarter started. SU seems to give out spots in batches, so offers got sent out the first weeks of July, August, and September. I am now the Vice President of my class and the President of my class was also a waitlisted student. I share this to encourage you and all waitlisted students to keep your head up and feel proud that you made it this far. Don't give up and don't let the stigma of being waitlisted hold you back.

To the general forum:

First of all, congratulations to everyone already accepted. Utilize that facebook page to get to know each other and answer each other's questions. A representative from the transfer cohort above you ( @brendamatadiaz) will reach out soon about the Mentorship program. This is a way to connect new students with a peer from the class above to help answer any questions you may have, and also make a new friend before school starts. I highly encourage you all to participate in this program.

Second of all, I wanted to clarify that SU has two distinct nursing tracks: the traditional cohort and the transfer cohort. The traditional cohort is the 4-year program for students entering SU out of high school as a freshman. The transfer cohort, which applies to most people on this forum, is a 2-year program where you start at SU as a junior. There is very little overlap between the traditional and transfer cohort. As a transfer cohort, you will only have classes with classmates in your cohort and will rotate together for the entire 2 years.  The only time you will interact with students outside your own cohort is UCOR classes and extracurriculars like the student nursing association (SUSNA). Your new Transfer Cohort '23 will become like a family and I encourage you all to build community over the Summer (safely, of course) before school starts. Also, don't forget about students coming in off the waitlist. Those students will be behind in their prep work and nervous about joining late. Please make the effort to welcome them into the family and help them get up to speed.

Lastly, I encourage everyone to check out @seattleubsn on Instagram. This is a student-run page and has lots of information about the program. We frequently do Q&As and have resources posted on the highlights section of past engagements. Students monitor the DMs frequently and are happy to talk with you. This is a great way to connect with the SU nursing family and know what to expect.

Hi everyone! I'm from the transfer cohort class '22 and I wanted to reach out to those who were admitted to the BSN transfer class of 2023. I encourage all of you transfer students to apply for the Alfie Scholars Program! It is a $30,000 scholarship and so much more. I'm currently an Alfie Scholars and it has been nothing but a pure blessing. If you have any questions feel free to private message me! ? thanks

Hello! I am a part of the transfer cohort '23 and I was wondering if there is some kind of facebook group that I could join? Everything is a little overwhelming right now so it would be awesome to be able to connect with some of you guys :')

Hi there,

I'm wondering if any waitlisted folks have received updates, received an offer since March, or heard any updates from the school about when waitlist movement might occur. Thanks in advance.

Still haven't heard anything back. Any luck for anyone else? For those who've been admitted off the waitlist in the past (former students), can someone offer more information as to what day of the week and time? Any information helps ?

Hello there. I am also waitlisted. I heard from my advisor that it's "not highly likely" they will be making further offers, as people offered admission have largely decided to enroll. Sigh. Onward...

Edit: "movement from the waitlist is not highly likely," to be precise. Not totally sure whether this caveat was meant for me or for everyone on the list, and still a bit confused about the fact that the waitlist is "unranked."

Thanks for the insight! I wonder if my advisor wasn't as forthcoming because she didn't make any mention of that. How recently did your advisor tell you this? I think a lot of people just immediately accepted their SU offer and hopefully have heard back from other colleges and have yet to decline... I'm grasping at straws but rjkgrkojhirjhkrjhkl

I've been monitoring PLU and UW's allnurses page and it seems like UW has admitted 16 people off of the waitlist already...

Irene! Where, might I ask, did you get the number 16 from?

My waitlist number at UW was very, very close to that, so you've got me on the edge of my seat...

It’s on their allnurses page! If you scroll to the last past, you’ll see some people listing their number and the last comment was of #16 getting a response back at like 6pm. Go look ?
