Seattle University APNI 2015

U.S.A. Washington

Well, I know it's early.

Anyone applying for 2015 start?!?

Does anyone know how many were interviewed for FNP?

I was admitted yesterday for FNP and had the same change on my app tracker. I interviewed late in the day on the 28th. Didn't expect to be admitted, thought my I blabbered my interview into the ground. Couldn't be more excited though, it's been a long 2-3 year process of preping my resume, prereqs, etc.

They said that 200+ people applied for FNP out of 375+ applicants. FNP in 24/65 spots so I would expect somewhere around 70 interviewed?... all speculation though

From what the FB has posted, there were some HIGHLY competitive applicants that didn't get interviews. It really makes you wonder what they were looking for.

I have been in contact with AH regarding a decision for FNP as I have been accepted into all of the other programs I applied to (University of Vermont DNP program, UMass Med DNP program, and Emory's ABSN/MSN program) with one of the deposit deadlines being on 3/1. I was supposed to find out a decision last week but I bit the bullet and paid Emory's deposit fee since I still couldn't make up my mind. I found out yesterday I was waitlisted, and was honestly a little shocked, as when I talked to AH last week she said "you may just be on the very top of the list." She told me yesterday that despite the fact that I was waitlisted, I was #3 on the list. She said it is quite likely I will get an acceptance due to movement and people declining. My point... I am turning down my spot no matter what. SO, those farther down on the waitlist from me hoping to get in, still hold on!

Did they send you an email notifying you that you'd been wait listed? Or did you get that info through emailing them yourself? Just want to know how proactive I should be here, thanks!

I know that absolutely no one can make this decision for me - except for myself. But ever since I got accepted to Seattle U my stomach has been turning and I'd really appreciate advice - perhaps from people already in the APNI program.

I was so sure that PLU was the program for me. Its close to home (20 minutes away) and I like the idea of having a broad exposure to different areas of nursing. Not to mention it is a wonderful school. I actually only applied to Seattle U as a back up for the longest time.

But now that I've been accepted to Seattle U I can't shake this feeling that I want to go. The APNI program intimidates me and honestly I LOVE that. I feel like life is about being scared and taking on challenges. I just really feel as though not going to APNI route I am doing a disservice to my potential. I just feel as though Seattle U will push me to be the best version of myself.

I was kind of weary about the direct entry NP route. I obviously think I am capable but I believe prior nursing experience is probably beneficial. I currently work as a CNA in a hospital and at work I was thinking about the PLU program and bedside nursing and I honestly already know that I am not going to stay in bedside long term. So if I'm already planning my escape from bedside why waste my time getting a generalist masters degree when I can get a NP degree in the same amount of time.

Seattle U is far from me. About an hour and that's with no traffic. There is obviously the option of relocating and what not, but that adds on more expenses and means spending time away from my husband. I've heard others say that as the program goes on you only have to be at the actual school one or two days a week so commuting is more reasonable. However, I currently commute an hour to work (south so I miss the Seattle traffic) and I would be lying if I said that it didn't affect my quality of life. The drive can be exhausting. I feel as though these direct entry programs are already really intense, why would I want to add on extra stress in my life?

But then it comes down to me feeling that I'm only choosing PLU because it is close and it would be easier. I feel like I'm making up excuses as to why PLU, when really I feel like I fit at Seattle U.

Soo... currently/former students or anyone really - does anyone have insight? Is Seattle U worth the commute?

I mean I feel ridiculously lucky that I even get to choose between these two schools - they're both fantastic. I'm sure either route I will find my way to my end goal.

So it's either - PLU with a generalist masters but it's much closer to home and less stress in that sense.

Or Seattle U which will mean quite a bit of sacrifice when it comes to spending a lot of time in the car and not seeing family, however I think it's a more direct route to fulfilling my goal.

I'm rambling, I'm sorry.

@May25, if you haven't checked out the facebook page for APNI applicants, that might be a good place to ask some of your questions about commuting, school/life balance, etc. I think there are more current APNI students active on there than here & I've seen some other questions about how far away to live, family time, etc. This link might work https://www.facebook.com/groups/1438473813034828/ or try searching for Seattle University APNI Applicants in facebook.

@May25, If you want my opinion, if you have received an offer of admission to PLU but haven't already picked up the phone to tell PLU that you wish to accept their offer, that is your heart telling you it wants to go to Seattle University.

@lumen4 Sounds like they've already made all their decisions then? Would you recommend calling them? I've got a deposit deadline coming up in a couple of weeks, so I have a little leeway time, but I don't want to be waiting till the last minute if I can help it.

I would call because I think there's going to be a lot of movement in the next couple of weeks. Many acceptances just went out and they have 14 days from the time they receive their offer letter to accept or decline so they should be pulling off the wait list shortly.

I did not get an email. I called AH directly as we have been in contact for a few weeks, trying to work around my 3/1 deposit deadline for Emory.

Lumen, did you find out you were waitlisted at Seattle u for APNI? Sorry I just don't know what school your referring to
