Seattle U - APNI 2012

Published

Anyone already applying at Seattle U? Which track? I haven't finished my pre-req's, so I am probably not too competitive this year, but I am going to apply anyway. I am applying for the nurse-midwife track and my background is Microbiology (UW).

Does anyone know how many people were given interviews for adult/gero?

50????????? Holy moly! That doesn't even make sense! For 8-10 spots? Wow!

Yes!! I'm hoping what she meant was that there were 50 who applied and from those it was narrowed down to a smaller number who were interviewed. However, I'm pretty sure she said 50 being interviewed.

WHAT. Interviewing 50? I thought someone said they are trying to up the number of spaces to 13, but 50 interviewees... that makes no sense! Guess there are just tons and tons of qualified applicants out there. and thanks, Justine, for the perspective!

^^ that number is so ridiculously large. :(

i don't even know what to think right now... i feel like i'm losing it and i haven't even had my interview yet

Hi all! I'm still lurking around, wishing you all luck throughout the waiting period!

I actually ended up turning down my invitation to interview because I found out that I was accepted into vanderbilt's program (my top choice). I wish I could have given it to one of you here!!

Good luck to everyone! I have been following a bunch of threads, but I love this one because you are all so friendly!

Hi Everyone! First time posting. Had my interview on Wed for the Psych track! Does anyone else feels like they're one foot in and one foot out at their current jobs???

Congratulations Blackbird! I'm going to miss discussing micro with you but I'm so happy for you!Greywarden welcome! I was there on Wednesday as well, how do you feel about your interview?

I'm supposed to be interviewing today by phone but they still haven't called and it's past the time they were supposed to.

Hang in there Christy, and good luck! Welcome Grey. In many ways I do feel like I have one foot in and one out at my current job. It's a challenge to stay focused and committed to work with so many potential changes on the horizon! Are you dealing with this issue too?

Okay just got done with the interview. So two big things I learned:

As for the requirement of working as an NP being moved to a DNP from an MSN by the AACN, Seattle said they are currently setting up a DNP program that you could finish part time within about a year that would give you the classes you need to finish the DNP requirement and be set but that it may take them a couple of years and that most programs nationwide will take a few years so you can continue to practice until everything gets set up.

Decisions: The women said that the interview process is being wrapped up (I think she was implying today is the last day of interviews) but they still have to meet and review once more. She said they are shooting for releasing decisions mid March but at the latest we'd hear before the end of March. She also said she wasn't sure but she thinks the decisions will be sent out by e-mail and then postal service so that you have a hardcopy.

They were extremely nice! And thanks to you ladies I think I did well answering the questions.

Haha totes! I work as a mental health therapist, so it's hard to stay focus at times. At the same time, I'm prepared to shift perspective just in case I don't get picked...it would be nice to just hang out and relax for a year, given the past few years has been kind of tiring with having to work FT and attending school at night to get the prereqs in :).

Calinca- I think I did pretty well with the interview . I mean, it was pretty rough being bombarded with so many questions, but in the end interviewers do expect a bit of stumbling and nervousness from all of us, and they're really just looking for the best fit candidates for their program. I just came in with the mentality that if they wanted to interview me, they must have wanted me already (even if I'm lying to myself), and my job is not to mess it up :D.
