Seattle U - APNI 2012

Published

Anyone already applying at Seattle U? Which track? I haven't finished my pre-req's, so I am probably not too competitive this year, but I am going to apply anyway. I am applying for the nurse-midwife track and my background is Microbiology (UW).

If I get accepted, I'll be looking for super affordable living arrangements. Any ideas anyone??

[td]seattle university has partnered with [color=#981e21]places4students.com, a company that specializes in providing off-campus housing solutions for post-secondary students. this service is free for all students to use as an effective method of finding a place to live off-campus or finding a roommate. students need not register to search listings. landlords can list properties at very competitive rates (less than most other mediums of advertising).

i'm from seattle if anyone wants a recommendation for areas to live in.

Apartments for Rent - PadMapper Apartment Search for Oodle, Apartments.com, Rent.com, Kijiji, and Craigslist Apartments lets you plug in areas, rent ranges, etc. Affordable living arrangements are in Seattle. What are your other priorities? Nice neighborhood, square footage, walking distance to school, bus availability, parking? Will you have a car?

I don't live in Seattle proper. So if anyone wants to live in the suburbs, let me know!

Did anyone ask about timeline for notification during the interview? Are we still thinking we will hear by March 15th?

From p. 60, christymel:

"Decisions: The women said that the interview process is being wrapped up (I think she was implying today is the last day of interviews) but they still have to meet and review once more. She said they are shooting for releasing decisions mid March but at the latest we'd hear before the end of March. She also said she wasn't sure but she thinks the decisions will be sent out by e-mail and then postal service so that you have a hardcopy."

Regarding neighborhoods in Seattle - feel free to message me for more specific neighborhood info, but here are some basics:

Closest to Seattle U is Capitol Hill/First Hill. These are fun, urban neighborhoods, very convenient to the school, also fairly pricey. The International District is also close and you will be surrounded by amazing food!

Close residential areas are the Central District and Madison Valley, my husband went to SU Law and lived in Madison Valley at the time and thought it was very convenient, it took him 5-10 minutes to drive to SU. South Lake Union neighborhood is also fairly close, maybe 10-15 min drive, and really cool- lots of new development happening there.

You will probably find the best rents south of the I-90 bridge, Beacon Hill or Columbia City.

Just to give you an idea of travel times - I live north, close to UW, and it takes me 15-20 minutes to get to SU by car. Seattle isn't great with public transportation (compared to other big cities,) but the bus system is decent. If you want to get estimates of bus travel times, here is a link to the trip planner.

Let me know if you have other questions!

Just thought of one more thing for out-of-towners, there is a new toll on the 520 bridge, which varies based on the time of day but during rush hour is $3.50 each way. Definitely something to think about if you are looking at living on the Eastside. I-90, however, is not tolled.

I'm starting to feel really nervous about SU admissions decisions being made. Is anyone else feeling anxious? I thought it would get better after the interview but.... nope!

I know Justine! I have so much to do this week that I am trying to focus on other things, but I check that status website all the time. It should be really soon, jugding by the fact that it took literally a couple days for them to start mailing decisions last year. If you go to last year's thread, you will see that they started changing the status on the tuesday following the end of the interviews (which it would be today!) and enventually sent all letters by wednesday following the end of the interviews (which would be tomorrow). But of course, different years, different outcomes, right? They could as well take these next two weeks making decisions - maybe having so many good applicants this year, it is a lot harder for them to decide! But I am hoping for the best and that we will start hearing really, really soon. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the reply Calinca. It is true, so easy to speculate about when notifications go out! I think the final interview date was on Saturday 3/3 which would mean based on last year's timeline (what you just said above), we could be notified as early as this week. But good suggestion to just get busy doing other things to keep from obsessing about this - I need to take your advice!
