Seattle U APNI - 2010 Entry

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for Seattle U's APNI program. I thought I'd start a thread because it doesn't look like there is one, yet.

I think we're supposed to hear about interviews sometime soon. Has anyone gotten word, yet?

Hi All,

I've been keeping up with this thread for a while now and figured it's time to join in and share what I do know about everything. I, too, have been waitlisted.

I contacted them a few days ago and was told it'll be another month before APNI applicants are moved off the waitlist, if any spots become available. Because some of the APNI courses overlap with those of the traditional MSN curriculum, they've got to figure out how many traditional MSN students they'll be taking before reassessing whether there will be any more openings for APNI students. The MSN review process is just now beginning and, at this time, there are no openings for APNI students in any track.

In other words, if you haven't gotten the good news yet, chances are pretty slim that you will, and it won't be for another month...

If any of you are feeling totally despondent about everything, I recommend checking out NPR's facebook page--they're currently interested in hearing about waitlisted college applicants' experiences. As such, there are a lot of posts on the page that, for me, culminated in the conclusion that being waitlisted is very much a reflection of systemic issues rooted in this nation's recent structural decline. In other words, it seems that being waitlisted is more the norm than being accepted, even for very qualified candidates.

I don't know whether to feel happy or even more anxious. But, from your sources do you know if more apni waitlisters could expect to be accepted?

whitecream, I don't think many more waitlisted people will be accepted. I know they've already gone into the waitlist once (to fill those spots not reserved by April 1st, the deadline for initially accepted students). I got the impression that any spots not filled by those waitlisted people may not be filled at all depending on how many traditional MSN students are accepted... in any case, there won't be any movement for another month, once they've made final decisions regarding the traditional MSN applicants.

I've not posted yet on this thread but, alas, I'm another wait-list gal. I was told, over the telephone, in early March that my interview received very high marks and my academic credentials were excellent. They said, "you are at the top of the wait-list"....which of course gave me great hope. However, other than receiving my wait-list letter in March it's been nothing, nothing, nothing. I'm thinking of submitting another letter of recommendation...what the heck, right?

haha, i was also told i was at the "top of the waitlist" :) in my latest conversation with SU, they said that who they let in off the waitlist is dependent on who they let in/who says no for the MSN program. from what i've heard, and from what i was told, it sounds like their process is a little disorganized. i also think from what i know from other friends applying to various grad programs that it seems that this whole waiting game is pretty standard. they don't want to say no outright, because they need to keep you around/interested in case other people say no to them. yeah, it sucks to have to put down deposits somewhere else - but that's just how it is in many types of programs.

Hey Fellows,

I was wondering, if anybody got into APNI 2010 and waiting for the program to start. I am on the GNP track and would be interested in knowing rest of you.

Does anybody knows where I can go and get the CPR training provided by American Heart Association?

Hey

It sounds like we both are going to be together in the GNP track. YAY!!! Finally, I found someone. By the way, what is your real name?

I am planning to apply to the SU APNI program for 2011 entry. Would any of you be willing to share some advice with me about the application/interview process? I live in Seattle now and am finishing up my pre-reqs at Seattle Central. I will take the GREs in September and then apply this fall.

I am happy for all of you who were accepted this year! Congratulations!!

Hey! Rogue APNI 2010 thread! I am an outgoing SU APNI 08 student (I attended the "wine & dine" event in March, as well) in the Public/Community Health Leadership & Program Development track. I am overjoyed to see that you guys have this thread, particularly because I am trying to find an incoming pair of APNI-ers in need of housing. With graduation being June 13, I will be vacating my 2BR, 1BR apartment on June 18 to go to Yakima, WA for my summer clinical capstone. I am looking for someone to help me with rent in June, and if you like it, perhaps two of you APNIers can just move straight in. My roommate, a post-bac BSN student at SU, has lived there 4 years and I have lived there the entirety of the APNI program. I have been able to walk to class and most clinicals, or ride my bike (it takes 20 minutes to walk to campus). It is close to the Arboretum, you walk past a Safeway and a Trader Joe's on the way to campus, and I have never felt unsafe walking to/from campus, even at 10pm. It is part of an 8-plex, the landlords are a middle-aged couple who live downstairs, laundry is coin-operated, all utilities except bimonthly electricity are included... and I have paid $362.50 every month since moving in for rent. The lease, too, is month-to-month.

This is shameless advertising, but I'm so excited for you guys to start the program, and I want to let you in on the cheapest rent within a mile of SU... hit me back on this post!!

Hi:

I'm in the APNI 2009 class and we've been hearing you might be interested in some sort of informal off-campus gathering so our class could reach out to yours and answer questions in a casual atmosphere.

What's the best way to get in touch with your cohort -- Do you have any informal leaders popping up yet?

Best,

Mike

Hi Mike, I just sent you a friend request so I can forward you the email they are using to contact all of us. I don't know about any informal leaders yet but I'm sure all would agree, an informal get together would be great!

Hi everyone

I will be applying to Seattle U's APNI program for a summer 2011 start date.

Does anyone know if the program gives preference for applicants who have worked for a number of years after obtaining their bachelors degree over applicants who apply right out of undergrad?
