Seattle U APNI - 2010 Entry

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for Seattle U's APNI program. I thought I'd start a thread because it doesn't look like there is one, yet.

I think we're supposed to hear about interviews sometime soon. Has anyone gotten word, yet?

Whew that is tough! UCSF is a great school but I don't think I made it in there. Congrats. At least you have some really nice choices. Good luck

Some news about financial aid: You might recall an earlier post from me that said the financial aid office will send us something within 10 business days of being accepted. Well, I called them back last Friday and found out that the info wasn't true. We won't receive our financial aid award until May!

Sometimes people have to accept multiple places since the response deadlines and award offers are all of of synch with each other. What else can one do? You have to be able to make an informed decision. It may mean losing a deposit, but it's hard to think of another solution. The other school I was accepted at said I should have my financial aid award offer in 2 weeks. Thanks for the info on the special summer aid application.

Yes, it's nice to be able to make an informed decision if you have the chance. I don't mind losing a deposit, but I do need to let my employer know soon which month will be my last -April or May. Thomas Jefferson's program starts in May, so I won't be able to wait on the financial aid packet from SU or UCSF. My decision will have to be based on the strengths of each program. With that being said, I feel that Jefferson has the strongest program. They use an interdisciplinary approach to learning and they allow me time to work as an RN first. I can't say that I have made a final final decision yet, but it is looking more like Jefferson is the right school for me.

I have thought more and more about programs that allow one working as an RN during school. That is a great advantage I think. hmmm

Hi JSBH. Sorry for the late I've been very busy lately so haven't had times to post. I had a chance to read a few of the threads and one thing that surprised me was the perception that SU has lots of clinical connections. This is a bit overstated. Sure you can end up with lots of great experiences, but there have been some terrible ones. There have been a number of complaints about clinicals. In fact, in some cases, FNP and Phych NP have been following around workers with a lower level of expertise or no expertise at all. In some cases, students have been lucky to follow around and RN, but sometimes it is so bad that you are following an LPN. While it technically fulfills your hour requirements, it doesn't amount to a quality education. That doesn't mean all the rotations are bad. In fact some of them are good. You just have to be your own advocate. If I had a choice between Samuel Merritt and SU, I'd go with Samuel Merritt.

Hey all,

I am pretty sure since I haven't heard anything, that Ive been rejected :( I am pretty bummed...did anyone get any mail mail last week or at all? It is frustrating...Anyway hope you are all well.

Take care

I have gotten nothing by mail either. I live in the midwest. I wrote and was told via Email about my waitlisted status. Have you contacted them by phone at this point?

Hello,

I have tried calling a couple of times but haven't been able to get through to actually speak to anyone. When people have called, who were they calling and would they mind lending a phone number? Thanks!

Take care

Hi Qwerty, I called the SU main line, asked for the School of Nursing, and just explained to the person who answered that I was an APNI applicant interested in finding out my waitlist status. I think she just put me through to someone who was available and had the information. I went that route rather than just calling directly because I know how crazy it is over there, and I wanted to make it easy for them to just say "we're in the process of blah blah blah, wait for the mail blah blah blah". Didn't want to bug them. That being said, the person I spoke with was informative and understanding about my anxiety. I know I'm on the waitlist but not where on the waitlist.

Cheers, Laura

Did anyone go to the information session yesterday? Any info you'd care to share would be eaten up happily. :)

Hello,

Thanks for your advice, I finally called and spoke with a grad admissions woman. She said I have been waitlisted...sigh. She couldn't tell me any other information about my position or anything or even if I am being considered for FNP for CNM. It is super frustrating...Anyway at least I have some info...Thanks for all of your support.

Thanks,

Qwerty

i know we're all anxious to hear back - when i spoke to someone i directly called the school of nursing and was transferred to whoever their admissions coordinator is. they were very nice and open with the information they had...
