I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for Seattle U's APNI program. I thought I'd start a thread because it doesn't look like there is one, yet.
I think we're supposed to hear about interviews sometime soon. Has anyone gotten word, yet?
Brownie1984: I had the same impression from the OHSU faculty that you did - they were wonderful! Since I am already in Portland and love it here, I am leaning towards OHSU. However, so many people have great things to say about Seattle U and I know I'd be happy in this program as well. Bottom line is I am anxiously awaiting financial aid info to be able to to make my decision!
Let us know what you decide to do to!
Congratulations to all accepted (and good luck to those still waiting), I look forward to meeting you :)
This may be a silly question but this is all new to me. I already confirmed my acceptance because I knew I wanted to go to Seattle U. Should I have waited until they sent me a financial aid package?
HI Rainier 1221,
I am in Seattle so will probably go to Seattle U. My heart is with OHSU though. I talked to several current/former students & faculty at both programs. OHSU seems to be a far better program. It is a lot more expensive (about $30K more for the 3 yrs) but what you get out of it seems worth it. I also like how there is an emphasis on psychotherapy.
Good luck with your decision!
Brownie
Brownie1984, sounds like a wise choice! The cost of schools ends up being about equal for me since I am an Oregon resident. I am torn!
For everyone else, I talked to a financial aid counselor at SU today and was told that our aid letters may not be sent out until AFTER we make our decisions. Kind of makes it tough, don't you think?
I submitted my FAFSA on Feb. 24. I had applied to another school and they asked that the FAFSA be turned in by Feb 28, so I just put down Seattle U's name on it too.does anyone know if turning in your FAFSA and financial info affects your application? if that was already due?
This is what it says at the Seattle U website:
https://www.seattleu.edu/admission/graduate/Inner.aspx?id=30570
File dates Students may apply for financial assistance all year. We suggest you file by the dates below to be assured that your financial aid will be available by the beginning of the term:
- Summer - April 1
- Fall - August 1
- Winter - November 1
- Spring - February 1
I am finishing up my second year as SeattleU and while I have enjoyed many aspects of the APNI program, the delayed acceptance letters, and disorganization during the interview process are first symptoms of the total disorganization of the Seattle U program.
They have good facilities and small class sizes,, but I fee like a lot of the time I am either not learning anything or it is so disorganized that I wished I'd gone with my gut, and gone into another program. A few of my friends got into OHSU. The seem to be enjoying their programs so much.
If I see you in June, I hope you feel like you made the right choice. I just wanted to offer these words while you still have options open.
Thanks so much for the feedback BayAreaGirl. I'd be interested in continuing this discussion with you and Brownie, though I don't know if this is the best page for it since it's not really relevant to everyone on here.
Anyone know how to start a new thread? I am new to allnurses and couldn't figure it out! (and if we do start a new thread, I'll mention it on here in case anyone else wants to join in)
