Seattle Central Community College Fall 2014

U.S.A. Washington

I am really hoping that a current or former student can shed some light on SCCC nursing program.

Some specific things I am hoping to find out

Instructor reviews.. did you feel that the majority of the instructors taught fairly well and were supportive of the students.

Environment- Did you feel it was a good environment and you had the tools and resources you needed to get things done in lab and skills check offs

Administration- there seems to be a general consensus that SCCC has a horrible reputation in their normal college administration and administrative functions such as transcripts, records, cashier, losing important items and financial aid. Does this carryover into the program or do they seem to be organized and efficient?

Material: Did you find that the material prepared you well for graduation and NCLEX?

Student Nurses Organization: Is there one? Is there any kind of community health or outreach that the students participate in?

Thank you so much if anyone can answer some or all of these. I am trying to decide if I apply here for Fall or go somewhere else.

The information session was helpful, but there are still some unanswered questions and I would love to get an actual student or graduates perception of these things.

Not a stupid question at all. For our class we had to order specific scrubs from a specific website. They're royal blue, expensive as h*%$ and super uncomfortable. So we couldn't just get whatever, unfortunately. There has been "talk" that they're going to change that and just make them all be the same color but brand didn't matter, but I don't know if they'll do that in time for you guys. You may be able to get hand-me-downs from the graduating class; I got my tops that way for a lot cheaper and since they're pretty much made of burlap, they NEVER wear out. If I hear anything about that, I'll let you know.

For books, we had Fundamentals of Nursing first quarter and we used the book Fundamentals of Nursing by Craven 7th edition. Second and third quarter we used Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing 12th edition. Those are the main/most expensive textbooks, but there are a few other smaller ones. But unless you can get them really cheap, I would wait until you know for sure you won't be using different ones. They change them all the time.

Hey everyone,

Has anyone been able to access their quarter schedule yet? Or do you think we should not expect it to be up till later since Cebrina did say they were short on staff...Also, has anyone gotten an email from the new person taking over? Thanks.

If your class is like mine, you won't get an official schedule until you register which you will do in person later in the summer.

If you go to the school website and click under the "Student Online Services" by the search bar, then click on "Quarterly Class Schedule" under Schedule. It looks like a printout, nothing interactive. You'll need your SID and pin. @Husky2011

I have been entering my info into the website for the past several days, but it just says 'try again' and nothing appears.

I thought Cebrina said that our schedules for fall would be up by now. Is everyone else able to see their schedule already??

Mine says "try again," as well. I think people that haven't previously gone to SSC are going to keep running into this problem until we are entered in system correctly. Have you emailed Cebrina?

I was finally able to access my schedule... Has anyone received an email from Minza (the new program assistant?) about books or anything?

Hi all,

I graduated from SCCC in 2011 and had an excellent experience there. I liked all my professors and am still close with much of my graduating class. Yes, it was disorganized at times and some of the instructors could be rigid but I still felt that I got a lot out of my time there.

Unfortunately there have been major changes since that time so I can't really vouch for the program now; 3/4 of the professors I had left in the last two years. Still, nursing school is what you make of it. Good luck to all!

@Husky2011 I was also able to access my schedule, however I did not hear anything about books yet. I emailed Minza a week ago because I wanted to know which books we will have so I can order in advance for cheaper - I still have not heard back. One thing I discovered is that if you log into the bookstore and enter in the classes we have, they tell you which books are required but I am just not sure if all of that information is accurate or not - I don't want to purchase expensive books that they will decide not to use later on.

On another note - has anyone heard anything about out lab/clinical rotation schedule for fall qtr?

I am planning on continuing to work through the program but I emailed Celinda about our schedule and she said she doesn't know anything since Minza would be the one to email us about that.

So much uncertainty, I am getting a bit nervous :(

Hi nurseandmurse!

I actually went ahead and bought the books according to what was listed on the bookstore website. I think that is what Minza suggested when I asked her a few weeks back...but as for other supplies and requirements I think well find out on orientation..

Im getting a little ancy too because I like to plan ahead for everything but there is like no information from the program.

As for labs and clinical, besides what we found out on registration day I havent found out anything else.

Oh and quick question about ATI. Does anyone know if we will be getting the actual paperback copies of the books ? Thanks!

I couldn't access the books list under class schedules but when I asked, Minza was able to email me the list. Did you receive it yet Husky?

My question is, what was the website or store that Cebrina mentioned to get our royal blue scrubs at?? I misplaced the name.

Hi greenteame,

No, I did not get any email from Minza about the books..I actually went to the bookstore website, searched for the required books for our three courses this quarter one by one, and the whole list came out to about 8 or so books? So I'm hoping that the books you have in your list, and the ones I got are not different.. As for the scrubs, I did not remember Cebrina saying anything about that, and only remember her saying that we would find out on orientation day.
