been a RN in LTC/subacute for over 19 years.....I moved to 2 states in the last 3 years..and my work history is sporadic due to NOT BEING ABLE TO GET WORK WITH ONLY MY DIPLOMA....I am frustrated and upset....what positions(in Northern Virginia, if anyone is reading this from outthere) are available for Diploma Rns...seems like medical offices only hire LPNS as well as the SNFs...where do I go from here....hospitals wont even touch me!!!!

Shrimp, unfortunately the NOVA/DC/MD area has a glut of BSN nurses. Many of the hospitals in the area have gone BSN only in the last couple years. I am also a diploma grad working in the DC area, and I am extremely grateful I went back to school and got my BSN before I moved to the area. Try some of the smaller area hospitals, Virginia Hospital Center, Reston, Prince William, try home care, rehab facilities, jails, etc. Do not limit yourself to just NOVA, and look in DC and MD as well (your VA license will even be good in MD since both are compact states). You might also try NurseFinders, it is a big agency here in the area, and they place nurses on an as needed basis in facilities.

So sorry to hear what you're going thru. try the agencies it may be your best bet for now. i know of one nurse that talked her way into a job just by telling the recruiter she was going back for her bsn and enrolled part time shortly after getting the job. do whatcha gotta do. Good Luck!

thanks so much for your help.....I feel like an old windbag nurse ready to be put out to pasture already.....its depressing when you have all the training and you know you can help people but they prevent you because you dont have another degree......Yes in answer to your one question..I am limiting myself to NOVA....because of my very old car of 18 years.....so....and also.....I am deep in credit card debt from my recent move and a friend leaving me high and dry in a hugh house with tremendous rent and bills to pay...so I got wiped out....but....I think I am stuck between a rock and hard place in my career if I want to get the jobs I want....so.....I dont know if this will happen because of my tremendous debt...but I will see about some online BSN courses....I am just hoping to God my computer holds out...that is on its last leg too....I tell you...I wouldnt wish all this on a dog......thanks guys for your help.....God bless you.
