SDSU Fall 2010 BSN program

I've been lurking around allnurses.com for a while, and I finally signed up! I was hoping to find some others that were applying to SDSU's nursing program for Fall 2010. I just submitted my application to the school, and I'm working on the actual nursing app now.

I'm super worried about the point system. While my great are fine (at a 3.71 cumulative), I'm worried about not having any hospital experience. I'm hoping that not having experience doesn't take me out of the running. I'm waiting until the end of this semester, I think, to take the TEAS.

I'd love to hear from any with advice or anyone who is applying for Fall 2010.

The PDA they want you to get is the iPod Touch. AND, they will not allow iPhones because of the camera. Nursing Central software, you will buy along with your books at orientation. Let me know if you guys have any more questions. See you guys at orientation!! I'll be volunteering that day to help!

Hi SoCloseRN2B, I'm really glad you're on this forum. I was wondering about the cost at orientation. I read your other post and I saw your rough estimate. The main concern I have is that FinancialAid isn't going to be disbursed until the thurs of that week of orientation. Is there anything that can be done to those who really don't have the money on hand? I understand that books and some other items will be optional to purchase but I'm on a very tight budget. I figure I'm not the only one with this concern - we're all students right :)

I was worried about that too. I have asked several times but cannot get a straight answer. It sounds like it could be $700! I hope we can get a straight answer before orientation. :confused:

Trust me, I know the dilemma! I was there. Honestly, my best recommendation is buy what you absolutely must need to, and everything else can be bought when your financial aid gets there. Even the uniforms, I was able to put in an order later (though there is a deadline, but it's usually sometime in September). Also, I bought the PDA and Nursing Central software later as well. Of course, the books you can buy later as well. The only thing that I can think of the top of my head that you might need to purchase there is the nursing kit only because I don't know where they would store it otherwise.

Hi everyone! I have TONS of questions that I would love for you guys to answer!

I recently, this summer, just went from undeclared to nursing as my premajor. I am now a sophomore at SDSU.

First of all, congrats to everyone that got accepted!

So my questions are.....

1. is the nursing program that you are all talking about the major? or is it something different?

2. when am I supposed to take my TEAS? or when do you suggest I do so?

3. when do I start applying to get into my major?

4. how many people are accepted into the major usually?

Sorry for all of the amateur questions =/. I will definitely have tons more later...haha.

You will have to register for 397 every semester until you graduate. The only thing is you need to make sure that you are registering for the correct section. For first semester, it's section 1. Second is section 2, etc.

I'm so sorry I didn't see this message before. Yes, it's exactly how SoCloseRN2B said. :) You don't really use the Skills Lab until about half-way through the semester but it's great to have on your schedule.

1. Yes, I believe we're all talking about the traditional BSN program. There is an RN-BSN program but I don't know if anyone on this thread is in that program. :)

2. I believe you take the TEAS when you've been accepted into the pre-nursing major and are close to applying for the nursing program. I took it a few months before I applied for the program.

3. I've heard conflicting reports on this: I was told that they prefer you to have all of your prerequisites finished before you apply, but today I was told by someone that she had a class in progress when she applied. I would suggest that all of the classes are complete before you apply just to avoid any paperwork aggravation. :)

4. I have 72 in my class, and there were 95 accepted for this semester. It's probably going to vary a bit depending on financial stability for the program.

Ahh thanks corainder! yes thats what they said in orientation last week.

we start monday, and i am super nervous.. iam looking at some of the assignments and it is sure freaking me out. Do we really need to jot down everything in book or studying notes are enough for exams?

i have read so much that i dont even know which subject is for what now. help me out on some study techniques:(
