Scrubs and iPhone 6 Plus?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hi all!

I have an iPhone 6s Plus and I'm wondering if it will fit into most scrub pants (I'm starting clinicals in a few weeks)? Also, is it too big of a phone/does it get in the way? Sorry if this is a super random question

I have never had a problem with mine, usually put it in back pocket!!

Check policy carefully. Chances are that having your phone on your person is strictly prohibited. What in the world do you think you'll HAVE to have your phone for while in school?

Thank you!

When I took a nursing assistant class before we all were in different groups for clinicals and we had to have our phone on us because our clinical supervisor communicated with us through text where we'd meet after to go over stuff etc.

One of my co-workers is able to keep hers in her scrub pants. Side note, when I was in clinicals we weren't even allowed to have ours in the building, our post conference was in a designated place. I think you'll find that nursing clinicals are a lot more regimented than cna clinicals. Also, as a nurse on the floor nothing is more annoying than seeing nursing students with their phones out while on the floor.

When I was in clinicals we were able to use our phone to communicate with our faculty advisor, and also to use apps such as epocrates and medscape to look things up. If we were seen using it at inappropriate times or for un related things, then it was an issue.. But I definitely used it every day to help with my care plans and help look up medications quickly! I had an iPhone 6 and while it is smaller, I can't imagine the 6+ being too big of an issue. You'll find out very quickly which pocket you'll like to keep things in. usually for me in my left scrub top pocket is where I keep it and my chapstick (and while in school I kept my scissors and hemostats), etc. But I also since starting as an RN have started using one of those nurse 'fanny pack' type things to hold my scissors, hemostats, extra alcohol swabs, pens, sharpies, etc. in.

As a student, I was not allowed to use my phone on the floor at all during clinical. If I needed to use it, I could step into the break room.

Generally speaking, your cell phone does not belong on the unit. Besides being an infection control issue, it's just plain silly. Use some common sense.

I actually deducted my phone as a business expense because of all the medical apps - and now medical reference books - that I carry on it.

To say "use some common sense" regarding a phone is a bit extreme. Not everyone on their phone is texting. Even over here in Korea I use it at work every day to look stuff up.

Many schools require students to have electronic communication. Many schools are incorporating it into instruction and daily use in hospitals - many provide free access to medical references like Epocrates, and to access them, you need an app and a smart phone.

That's using common sense.

To the OP, I have my iPhone 6+ in a Mophie case and have no problems putting it in a deeper pocket.
