Scripps New Grad Program Jan/March 2019

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to start a thread for the Scripps New Grad application for the Jan/March 2019 cohorts that opened 9/17-9/19 so we could keep each other updated and calm our nerves :)

I'd love to know if anyone else here applied while still in school! I graduate in Dec but figured it wouldn't hurt to apply and see if my stuff makes t past ATS.

Interviews are on Oct. 22 and 23 and based on previous cohorts status changes/interview invites seem to go out between Oct.3-Oct 13th! But who knows- their rules can always change!

I wish the best of luck to everyone!!

Hello guys! Congrats to those who got a position at Scripps. I was trying to get advice regarding the next new grad RN program. I don't seem to have any luck with job applications and I'm getting very frustrated. Do you mind sharing some tips? I want to make my resume stand out for this round. Thank you!

Thank you. It was La Jolla DEU, medical/oncology

Hello @MomoTheMurse!

I have an interview with La Jolla DEU at the end of October for the Jan/Mar2020 cohort! Do you happen to remember the type of questions they asked you or any tips for the interview? I am very nervous and would appreciate any information. I have received so many rejection letters since retrieving my license in April and would love to prepare the best that I can! I'd love to connect and pick your brain! Thank you so much in advance!

Same! Got the good news Wednesday 10/31/18 around 3pm from Scripps La Jolla DEU for Medical Oncology. Start date is January 7. I am also an external applicant and this was my second time applying. My interview was Monday 10/22/18 with a panel of 3. They took 1 of my portfolios. They were about to take 2, but one of the interviewers changed her mind last minute, which made me very worried! After my interview they gave me a pamphlet about the DEU. I didn't receive any rapid fire questions. They asked only a handful of questions from the list of questions they had.

Anyone else hear back from the other scripps hospitals? Seems like it's just Scripps La Jolla and Scripps La Jolla DEU so far.

Like someone mentioned earlier, don't lose hope!! Good luck everyone!!

The panels use the same set of behavioral questions. How would you describe a perfect workday? What would you do if......? Describe yourself...? My panel was really friendly and welcoming. The most useful advice I can think of is to be confident. Show them that you're confident but willing to learn and acknowledge your weakness. Team player is a must. the DEU is a great place to learn. I grew a lot as a new grad. I'm finishing up the program in 2 weeks :)

@MomoTheMurse Congrats on all your success! ? and thank you so much for this information, everything helps! I really appreciate it. If you don't mind me asking, did you have any experience at Scripps? I live in the Inland Empire and only visited Scripps due to a family member being admitted; however, never rotated there for clinical or anything.

@MomoTheMurse What is the difference between the DEU program vs the regular new grad program?

I had clinicals all around SD but never with Scripps. The DEU is more intensive where you are 1:1 for 10 weeks with a clinical mentor and 3:1 (1 mentor : 3 new grads) for the next 30 weeks. So you always have the support you need over the whole 40 weeks period. it also means they are watching you closely. They have their own structure in training the new grads as well as high standards and expectations. It was challenging but also super helpful in helping us developing our critical thinking and nursing practice.

That sounds very intimidating, but I will definitely prepare as best as I can for the situation at hand! Thank you for all the info!
