I have a pt time job(work one day a week, & everyother weekend). Well, I got my schedule set for fall, but I only have Thursday's free to work. and my weekend. My problem is that work is not happy, telling me that I might have to drop my hours (& lose the only insurance my family has) They are telling me that it will be to hard for the other staff. (I am a CNA on a PCU floor) I am thinking of droping Chemistry. I also have AP1, but think I need that before Chem. Was hoping to get your opinion before I went to file a drop of class.

My work is telling me that if the other aid cannot handle working a 6 day stretch, than I have to drop a class so that I can be more flexible. I have to keep the 32 hours that I currently have in order to keep my health insurance. My husband's employer does not offer insurance, plus my hospital pays for 90% of all proceedure & labs done there.

Lisa,
I'm sorry to hear of your dilemna. You would think that your employer would be willing to work with you, especially since you are going to school for nursing---they never know when THEY might need you. I know at my school A&P is not a pre-req for Chemistry so maybe you should look into this. You might be able to drop the chem and keep A&P.
Hope everything works out for you.

somethings sounds wrong with this deal, let me get this straight. you were already working one day a week & every other weekend, right?
so now what difference does it make if thursday is the day you can work? if there is only one other cna they would be working a 6 day stretch (or more) anyway. say if you worked every monday using next month for an example. you work on 5, 12, 19 & 26, then every other we, say the 10/11 & 24/25 the other cna is going to have 7 day stretches on that schedule. like i said, something fishy.
my old and cynical opinion would be that you do a good job and they know after you finish school, you will be on to bigger and better things. it sounds as tho they really don't care whether you go to school or not (of course they don't have to) they know they have you between a rock and a hard place (with the ins) so they are gonna push as hard as they can. you just have to figure out how hard you will push back. at least try to get them to explain what difference it makes what day of the week you work. if all else fails, maybe you can offer to work 2 out of 3 weekends? good luck.

Stephany,
What's up with your responses? I noticed another thread had the same problem with your replies. You may want to send Brian a note.
