Science portion of TEAS

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

I am going to be taking the TEAS for my 1st time in about a week. Can someone tell me what areas of science to really focus on that has already taken the test? I've also heard there are several questions in reference to scientific reasoning on there....can you give me examples of how these go?

Thanks!

Hi for the last week I've been reading posts from this website because I had to take the TEAS test. Well, I took it today, and made an 86%!!! I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to these threads! All of your information helped TREMENDOUSLY!!! :D

Hi There! Do you know which version you took? I am taking mine next week and I"m super nervous. Was there a lot of anatomy on yours? Any info would help.

Thank you very much! Mel

Hi I don't know which version I took, but I know there were questions about clouds, rock formation, plate tectonics(different plate boundaries), velocity, prokaryotic/Eukaryotic cells, (hydrogen, covalent, and ionic bonds), the scientific method, and the periodic table(Know what atomic mass, atomic number, and isotope means). There were (I think) 5 A&P questions.

At least 8 of the questions were common sense, and a lot of the questions were on stuff that seems irrelevant to nursing! :p Good luck!

Thanks alot for this information...clouds??? My classmate from A&P 1&2 and myself take the test this month and I've been picking up tidbits wherever I could find them. I have the McGraw Hill book and bought the ATI study tests. She has te ATI study gude and has also purchsed the tests.

Here are the topics in the folder so far: mitosis, enzyme action, DNA, A&P, blood pressure, rocks, polar molecules, food webs, a chart on common Ionic Compounds, Blood Types, Gentics, d=vt, conduction thermomometers, acids/bases, General Chemistry, Phases of Matter,Cell Structure....and the other sections from the McGraw Hill Book.

I have to say for only 30 questions there are alot of topics that MIGHT be covered....

I am really worried about the science portion myself. It has been 8 years since I have taken a real science course (my high school allowed you to take forensic science in place of chemistry) and it is going to be my weakest point. I am extremely rusty as my Kaplan study guide showed me. These websites, geography4kids.com, etc. will be a fantastic refresher. Simple english to bring it all back, hopefully.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU! for the helpful sites! :yeah:

Question: most nursing schools require science to be less than 5 years old, plus they need to be college-level. Are you in pre-req courses yet? If not, I would suggest that you take some of your pre-reqs before taking the TEAS. I have a BA in English, and there is no way I would have taken the TEAS for NS without some of the pre-reqs under my belt.

Oh, and yes, there were quite a few physical science questions (like other posters have described) which were just plain dumb to have on a nursing entrance exam. I got my lowest score on that...60%.

My BA in English really helped, though. I got 100% (overall and subsections) on the entire English section. Although I'm biased about liberal arts degrees, reading, comprehension, interpretation that is learned via those types of degrees can and will be applied in all areas of learning....even in the sciences.

If you take the practice tests, and you see sections that you need to brush up on, focus on those.

I was just looking at my results.

140 questions

40 reading (comprehension, inference, conclusions)

45 math

30 science

55 English (punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, spelling, meaning in context)

So, yep...your performance for reading and English can make a HUGE difference on the final score.

I have all pre-req courses done and an AA in Early Childhood Education. But alot of these Science questions do not seem to apply to the nursing field but where things I had over 5 years ago in High School! I have Taken CHM 090 and A&P 1 and 2 as my sciences.

RAYMONGAL,

Im wondering what version of the teas are you taking, the 3/4 or the 5??

i am taking the version 3/4 according to my school. i purchased the mcgraw hl book and the ati tests for the 3/4. i didn't purchase their book because i read on several different threads here and amazon.com product reviews that all books had the same for the other sections (reading math, english/grammar) but that the mcgraw hill book has a better science section.

also here are two general test practice sites:

http://www.testprepreview.com/nursing_practice.htm

http://www.testpreppractice.net/teas/free-online-teas-practice-tests.aspx

and a powerpoint for math i found while surfing the web:

http://www.mecc.edu/forms/teas_math.pdf

and a ged science review:

http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0809222302/

(i really like the earth science section...this site also has math, english ect.)

good luck!
