OU's requirements are at Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Science classes include Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology.

I'm at UCO. For what it is worth my science GPA was a 3.8 and that included the required courses: Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology (I took Zoology). I made a B in Chem 1 so there went my 4.0..lol Didn't hurt me any though, but don't take chem over the summer if you can help it

I know at UCO, and I would assume at OU as well (someone correct me if I'm wrong), your science GPA is weighed very heavily.

Also, like someone else pointed out, if you are interested in OUs or UCOs nursing programs you want to live in OKC or N OKC are (Edmond, etc). OU nursing program is actually not in Norman but at the Health Science Campus near downtown, UCO is in Edmond (Edmond is very nice). Both schools as well as most of the other BSN and ADN (Rose, OCCC, OSu-OKC, etc) programs are easily accessable from both south and north OKC. I live in SW OKC and drive to UCO most days.

We have a lot of good nursing programs here to choose from I think. I know a lot of students from virtually every nursing college and most are pretty happy with their programs, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of them IMO. I know I really enjoy UCOs program.

I think someone else mentioned this in your other post...but Oklahoma City University is accepting all students who meet the minimum criteria so your GPA might not even be a factor since it is above their minimum. However, they are a private college, so tuition is really high. But it's always an option!

You know... At first I was skeptical about Oklahoma City University. Yes, it is expensive and I was almost ready to dismiss it as a chance, but, looking clsely at it, I realized that I would have to pay almost the same amount of money as a non-resident at other places like OU, Thank you for pinting it out, otherwise I would probably not have applied there. hopefully they will take me.

I hadn't even thought about the non-resident tuition issue, so you bring up a good point about how much you would have to pay even at public universities like OU & UCO.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I go to Oklahoma City University so I am totally biased, but I love it. The school is wonderful, campus is beautiful, the professors and staff are superb, and I adore my classmates. I know I sound super cheezy and gushy... but I am super happy there! I guess, I would say that there is just a different atmosphere at OKCU than any other school that I have attended (total 7) - and maybe that is attributable to actually being in the nursing program and prior I've just been doing pre-req's - but it's the first time I've been somewhere that I feel like my professors and advisors are so totally invested in and focused on our success. I mean, I have all of my professors' home and cell numbers and I truly feel comfortable calling any one of them if I'm not getting or struggling with something. That's just one of many examples and maybe most nursing programs are like this - but it has been a really wonderful change from the days of pre-req's!!

I think most schools will heavily weight the science GPA so that works in your favor. For OKCU, they really just require you meet their minimum requirements - which is basically to have completed the pre-req's (Nutrition, A&P, Microbiology, & Chemistry) with a C or better and have an overall 3.0 GPA. However, there are some little loopholes in that GPA requirement, which is kinda how I got accepted and so there is a little wiggle room for folks like us.

Thanks for pointing out the tuition for out of state isn't that much more higher than other universities, strongly considering applying to Kramer-At the Oklahoma City University

thanks for the info on OCU. there have been some pretty neg. posts recently about their program so it is encouraging to hear some pos. maybe it is still an option to look at.

I agree with one of the prior posts, not to take Chemistry over the summer. I'm currently taking College Chemistry One and its very hard for me so far, I think part of it is this is the first Chemistry course I've ever taken. It's a struggle, but I am getting help from a tutor so that helps, and its starting to make more sense, but all I'm doing at this point is studying whenever I get a free moment. I also don't recommend taking Microbiology over the summer, I'm also taking that and the class isn't that bad, but it's ALOT of information that you have to know for the tests, just a heads up for some if you are considering knocking out your pre-req's over the summmer.
