After a really bad day I had the most exciting thing happen. In my travels today I saw a poster for free CNA training. Needless to say I beat feet over to the place on the poster. I spoke with the LOL there and am now enrolled in the class. I just have on hurdle to get over but I am thinking it will not be that big of a hurdle. I have to take a test to get in the program. I asked about the clinicals, the tb test, the BG check and the test fees and was told it is all covered. Schweet. I can't believe I am on my way to becoming an RN.:balloons::smiley_aa
I do believe an update is in order.
Well I have 3 days of CNA class left. We graduate on Friday. We are in the middle of our hands on week. The floor I am working on has a great caring and supportive staff. They help out us students by answering any questions we have. Our instructors are the best. Well I am kicking myself in the behind for not doing this sooner. To say I love it is an understatement. I am having so much fun working with the residents. I feel like I have come home. I know now that I will retire from the Nursing profession. My goal is to become an RN-BSN. I am just so amazed at how much I like what I am doing and know that progressing up the ranks of Nursing it will only get better. I will post more this Friday after we graduate.
I'm currently a CNA 1. I paid approximately $450 for the class, my book, and the test. Last night...during my first night at a REAL job I found out that the hospital I work for offers free CNA 2 training. Of course I'm going to jump on that opportunity. I too am using my experience as a CNA to hopefully be at the top of the list for acceptance to the BSN program that the hospital I currently work at will fully pay for...If I decide that's what I want to do anyway. It's either an ABSN program or traditional BSN program...decisions, decisions....Good luck!
Well another update;
I graduated last Friday and have this week been putting in applications.
I am so frustrated now. I have decided that I will nolonger be pursuing a nursing career. I have had one interview which I felt went good. But today was told that the position was filled. I have applied to all facilities in a 25 mile radius of my home. Out of all those I only had one interview the rest tell me they have no positions available even though they have adds out that they are hiring. I have spoken to many of my classmates and to a one they have all been hired. I am the only one who has yet to be hired. I give up and have an interview this afternoon with a manufacturing company for a maintenance position and if I am offered the job I plan on taking it. I love what I did in school and really would like to work in the nursing field but the reality of the matter is that I need a job and now am in the position that I must take the first job offered. Oh well I should have known with my luck that what I want I never get. Thanks for all the kind words I have received. I am just so ticked off right now.

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. I'd say to not give up! If nursing is what you want then do not loose sight of your goal. Life has ups and downs (believe me I know), but things will come around. I've had a lot of adversity in my life, but today I am an RN. I "knew" that I was going to the ER, but did not get the externship and ended up doing an externship in the ICU. I LOVE IT!!! I would have never known it if I got what I THOUGHT I wanted. What ever you decide is your choice, but do not choose to let rejection dictate your life's career.
I wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Jay
I know about having troubles too. I had to jump thru many hoops to get into CNA school.
The main problem is that I am out of options here. Moving is not an option. I have applied to EVERY facility here and none of them will hire me. I wish I had more options. But as it stands now with no facility willing to hire me I am stuck. The bad part is that I received glowing comments from my instructors and fellow classmates. Also I finished number one in my class. It is just so frustrating.

If I may ask, what do you think the problem is? You can obviously formulate a sentence, you said that you were top of your class, your instructors gave you great reviews, and your classmates have found jobs. Will your instructors give you a written recomendation to send along with your resume? Have someone look over your resume for errors. Write a great cover letter expressing your desire to be an RN by building a solid foundation as a CNA.

I did all that you suggested prior to applying to any jobs. Had great letters from my instructors but to no avail. I think it boils down to my age. I can't say for certain that it is my age but that is the feeling I am getting. I am 46 so employers may not want to invest the time and effort into someone of my age. I hate that I can't get a nursing job. The thing that really irks me is all the talk of a shortage and I still can't get hired. You would think that employers would jump at the chance to hire someone who really wants to do the job.
