I am a 31 year old looking to start my prerequisite this week. I have a BFA from art school looking to change careers. All of the schools I have looked at so far have so many prerequisite and many different ones from one another. I am in Westchester NY and am looking at Pace and Concordia. They have the least prerequisite that I have found so far. A&P 1&2, Statistics, psyche, Microbiology, and chem.
Does anyone know of any other schools that has less prerequisite? I am willing to move anywhere.. A lower price tag wouldn't hurt either.
I spoke with someone from Pace and he was really discouraging, telling me how competitive it is and how unlikely it would be to get in.
Any help would be appreciated!
My 2 year program doesn't have any college-level prereqs. However, if you don't take classes like A&P, micro, etc. before going, you end up taking something like 19-20 credits per semester and trust me, you do not want to be trying to pass A&P while you're trying to pass your nursing courses as well.
I took A&P 1&2, Micro, Developmental Psych, and Sociology through Portage Learning, the online program mentioned by previous posters. I had Intro to Psych and English already out of the way from a previous degree. If you do go that way, just check with the programs you want to apply to to ensure they'll accept credits from Portage.
Being a nurse requires excellent organization and time management skills and your post demonstrates you have neither. You should be able to figure out that you need to do research on the internet and also by contacting nursing schools. Then, make a list of nursing schools of interest. You then create a chart or matrix of all the nursing schools in one vertical column. Across the top you create a horizontal header with all the nursing prereq's. Then fill in the chart with x's to indicate which schools require which prereq's. The ability to think and organize this way is essential to nursing. It is up to you to do basic research on schools and costs. This information is readily available via the internet.
YES!! This is exactly what I did before taking my pre-reqs. I am really kind of shocked at the number of adults who come to this forum and expect strangers to do their preparation and research for them. If you want to ultimately be responsible for other people's lives you should start by taking some responsibility (and initiative!) for your own.
To answer the question, as far as I know all the nursing programs in my area require at least A&P, statistics, psych, and microbiology. As PPs have mentioned some of these classes have their own pre-reqs. If I were you, I would be more concerned about the grades I earn in the pre-reqs, rather than how quickly I can finish them. Nursing schools are very competitive to get into and you will need a high GPA to even be considered. Furthermore, having a solid knowledge of your pre-req material will provide you with a strong foundation for nursing school and, more importantly, impact how well you care for your patients.

You're asking for the stars and the moon- less prereqs and less money. You're post kind of rubs me the wrong way- like you're looking for a shortcut and not willing to put in the time and effort.
As a person who completed an ABSN program those prereqs are universal. At the time I was preparing to take classes and apply I did up an excel spreadsheet and found several programs that had similar prereqs in my desired geographic area. It took time, patience, and organization to research all the schools. The school that required 8 credit hours of theology courses to apply- crossed off my list. The school that requires you to take a religion or ethics course while in their program- I could tolerate that and it stayed on my list.
I completed A&P I and II, microbiology, nutrition, chem 2, and developmental psych- I had statistics and intro to psych completed with my first degree, plus had 8 credit hours for biology from AP Bio in high school.
