Schoolcraft waitlist

Published

A little update on my previous conundrum between choosing to stay at Wayne State University or transfer to Schoolcraft: I've decided to go ahead with my transfer. I talked to academic counseling at Schoolcraft and they let me know that the waitlist is in fact currently about 4-5 years but that I'll probably be in the program in 2-3 years, which is on par with the rest of the schools in driving distance.

I really like the way that Schoolcraft treated the admissions and enrollment process better than Wayne State, as well. The counselor I talked to did some creative transferring of the classes I took at WSU and now all I have to take is A&P and the TEAS before I can apply to the nursing program. I'm feeling good about the choice I made. :)

Hi there,

Let me first say I graduated from Schoolcraft College with a degree in nursing (RN), and I feel they have an excellent program.

I'm just wondering if maybe you want to apply everywhere? I say this because you may want to go back for the BSN anyhow and could just finish it all up now. ? Oakland University and Eastern seem to have shorter wait lists. ?

Either way there would be loans to pay back.

Good luck wherever you end up :yeah:

At the moment, I have two young kids (3 and 1) and I work 30+ hours a week. If I had more time (like if I could stop working or reduce my hours) I would love to keep going for a BSN. But as it is I'm struggling pretty hard and if I stay in a BSN program, I still have almost a year's worth of pre-reqs to take. Given my situation I'm comfortable with the choice I've made.

Also, I'm kind of holding out hope that I will be able to get some partial tuition reimbursement by whatever hospital system I end up working in if I go for my BSN at a later date. :)

And thank you!!

I'm currently on the waiting list for the nursing program at Schoolcraft. My acceptance letter for the program has my start date for the fall 2014 semester, but I'm really hoping that I start sooner than that. I think Schoolcraft is a great school. Good luck!

I hope you do get accepted in 2-3 years but I dont know. I was accepted for Fall of 2014/alternte of 2013 back in 2010. Im still waiting. From what Ive heard, there IS a pretty good chance you will be bumped up a year and only wait 3 years, but I havent heard anyone being bumped up 2 years.

Take the first half of AP and schedule your TEAS date immediately (the test dates fill up quickly). I started back to school in May of 2009, applied to Schoolcraft's ADN program in December of 2009 and got my letter a week later welcoming me to the Fall Class for 2013. Last year, I received a letter indicating that I had been bumped up to the fall of 2012, so I start in September!

In the meantime, I have been taking classes at my leisure that will count toward an eventual BSN/MSN bridge program I am shooting for after I get my license. I too have a full time 9-5 job (completely unrelated to anything in the healthcare field) and am a single parent to a preschooler, so I had to base my school choices accordingly. This fall and the 18 months to follow are going to be rough, but I felt that Schoolcraft has a long standing, well respected program, its affordable, and the wait list was not so much an issue as I finished all my prerequisites and some BSN classes (Micro, BioChem, additional Psych) while I waited.

I'm about to start Nursing 102 (Infomatics) in a week and will be taking Pharmacology starting in May. It seemed like a long time to wait in the beginning, but time flew by! I will be taking Fundamentals of Nursing in September all on its own, without the stress of any additional classes!

Congrats and good luck with your decision!

hi Dharma21

i am also beginning in Sept 2012 with the nursing program. i sent you a friend request...just so you won't be totally shocked when you see it and think i am some wierd stalker!!

i wanted to ask you about nursing 102 informatics. i start it in march, then pharmacology in may.

any info you could pass onto me would be great. i guess starting in september we will be seeing alot of each other!! LOL!!

thanks!

Hi gstahl2012!

I just noticed this today and I just sent you a creepy stalker friend request as well. I should however warn you that apparently I do not have enough posts to send and receive private messages on this thing as I have mostly been lurking out there! Seriously, I am interested in everyone's advice and input, but I am a little bashful, even online!

I don't know if this will work, because I can certainly understand privacy and this might get blocked, but my alter-ego dharma can be reached at yahoo. She's dharma_sweet21.

Don't sweat NURS 102. Its fairly straightforward and I got the impression it was more to introduce you to the program and get you comfortable with terminology and abbreviations. I have absolutely no medical background (beyond two years as a candy striper WAY back in the mid 80's as a very green 16 year old) and it was an very easy 4.0. The professor is super friendly and helpful. She also teaches several other classes in the program, like Pharm and Fundamentals, so you will see her again.

I'll be taking Pharmacology in May also, the Wednesday evening class, as I am still clinging to my 9 to 5 job for as long as I can!

Let me know which Pharm class you sign up for this spring!

I happen to come accross this thread today, even though most of its post are from 2011, but I would like to comment on here for future nursing students looking for good nursing schools here in michigan and I know a lot of the community colleges have wait lists that are growing each year.. I would like to add that most universities do not have wait list, strictly competitive admission. I am a nursing student at eastern and I saw someone post early that they have a short wait list, but there is no wait list at all. it is competitive but they have a great BSN program.
