Does anyone know anything about the schoolcraft college nursing program by chance? I was told that there is a 2 yr waiting list but how do they go by picking who gets in or not? Is it based primarily on GPA and completion of pre-reqs?
Thank you! I looked on there and it is required but I am going to take a condensed class during the spring/summer so that I can get it done and be able to apply before the fall starts. I am trying to get on as many lists as possible and have even opened my options to LPN programs (altho I would prefer an RN program) hopefully something happens for me soon because I am so tired of all this waiting! At least I have a place like this to go to and know that I am not alone!!
Hey MsAshley! How is the school hunt going? I was planning on starting pre reqs this summer at wccc but have recently read that they are no longer accepting new students. This is a mess! I am so discouraged right now that I don't know what to think. I had no clue that it would be like this. I never thought that there would be so many people going into nursing and am kicking myself for screwing up years ago and waiting to go to school. Good luck and keep me posted.
mmh2 the school hunt is pretty much at a stand still for now. I have considered moving out of state for school and have checked the forums for the states I would like to go to and it still seems to be very competitve and somewhat a wait. Although definitely not as logn as ours. I am going to just continue taking classes towards the requirements for the programs surrounding me and in the mean time look into other states as an option. As much as I would like to move I just don't think it may be feasible. I have a good job working for the hospital now and have been there 2 years and don't really want to lose that. I talked to someone in the nursing department at WC3 to make sure that I will be able to transfer back there when I am ready and I was told that they are still accepting new students. They had just stopped for this semester because all the classes were full so still go and apply!! I hope that your search is going good as well and don't lose hope!! We will all get there in due time we just have to be patient!!

MsAsh- Thanks! I needed that! I had no idea it would be like this. I just thought I would takes classes and get in - easy as that! I will still start my pre reqs, that is as long as I can get into any of those classes. It is all very discouraging that's for sure. At least I found this website so I know realistically what to expect. Which sounds like a frickin uphill battle. What about Baker college or Monroe Community? I'm wracking my brain for a school you may not have thought of.... maybe we should start a support group. lol
Lol a support group is definitely what we need but I think that we kinda have that with this website! Everyone encourages everyone and helps as much as possible to see everyone succeed. I have thought about monroe but its farther than I would like to travel I believe. I have looked into so many schools I kinda forget which are which. Baker requires like 13 pre reqs as opposed to most cc's only wanted 3 to 5. For me that's spending more money and time than I would like to without a guarantee of program entry. I was so disappointed after I learned that and had taken time off work to go meet with them because they wouldn't talk over the phone. I even considered going to washtenaw comm college but they require u to have a CNA certification first I believe.

That's one of the good things about this website for sure! So many people have been so helpful! I agree about the time/money aspect. It's hard when you're working to pay from one semester to the next. That's why I stalled after one semester 7 yrs ago. I just didn't have the money to continue. Not rolling in it now either but I have a small window of opportunity as far as my kids ages are concerned. I'm just amazed at what a popular profession it is. Well, not really - it's just way worse than I thougt.
Have you looked at the DMC? I work there and on Labor & Delivery we hired new grads. they have plenty of staff nurse positions for other DMC hospitals and they hire new grads. I'm hoping when I graduate me working there will help me secure a job. Good Luck.
FYI Schoolcraft started sending out confirmation letters already. A friend of mine who is in for 2010 already got his confirmation that he still wanted to attend.
