I realize it's the end of the year and everyone here has frayed nerves......but after many years as a SN, I realize that it get's harder to enjoy this job. I do love the kids and their many needs, and I love being able to help kids out when they are feeling poorly.
But.....I am so dang burned out on overbearing teachers who want to control every aspect of the clinic. I used to be respected for my profession and my hard earned license, but this has gone by the wayside. No respect. Unless you are in Education, you are nothing.
I feel disrespected and second guessed over and over most days.
I try to support our educators, but respect is earned, and it works both ways.
Students: They are more demanding than ever before. No manners and no respect.
Parents: No respect. Demanding. Coddling kids who are NOT SICK. Parents whowon't give us current emergency phone numbers, so we can call them if their child is sick, injured.
The one constant here is: NO RESPECT !!
I'm trying here, but it's hard. Please tell me if I am the only one who feels this frustration ?
The lice thing drives me crazy too. I'm tired of parents thinking it's the schools responsibility to eradicate lice. Lice have been around as long as man, and schools haven't been able to stop the spread of lice for centuries, they certainly aren't going to anytime soon.
I honestly think a lice vaccine would stop the antivaxer debate all together-- pro and anti vaxers alike will line up in droves to get their kid inoculated!

You may be on to something!! I give my dogs monthly oral medicine to prevent heart worm, flea, and tick outbreaks. Maybe the CDC could come up with an oral lice prophylaxis.

The lice drama is what's gonna put me over the edge! We have a parent requesting that their kids be allowed to sit in their chairs rather than sit on the carpet during carpet time because they're afraid they'll catch lice....they're not sitting THAT close...and the carpet is NOT where they are getting it....Luckily the teacher is amazing and is not being fazed by all this lice drama and is totally willing to give them the appropriate facts.
