Grim Reaper Day

A gong will sound and a Reaper taps the student, who "dies" and cannot speak the rest of the day.

Do you have this in your schools, or did your kids participate in it in their school?

never heard of that! Maybe they can stand outside your door and tap the kids so they can't speak to complain!! ha ha!!

It's supposed to raise awareness about reckless behavior. The victim wears a plaque around his/her neck telling the tale of their demise: Suicide, I drove too fast, I took too many drugs, I jumped off a bridge on a dare.

All victims MUST sign up for it. The Reaper cannot tap people at will. :Radioactive:

hmm - very interesting! I like the idea of spreading awareness even better! (though tapping kids at will to quiet them down is not without it's merits too!)

We did this when I was in high school for drunk driving awareness. Someone walked around and picked out random people every so often and at the end of the day we had an assembly where everyone who had "died" stood in the middle of the gym and everyone was told "this is how many people die each day in drunk driving accidents". It was pretty sobering. I've never seen it done here at the school I work though.

Good Lord! I don't see this happening in my Christian school but I like the message of it.

We're not even allowed to celebrate Halloween.

Red Ribbon Week is the best week ever. Lots of drug and drinking awareness, doing positive things like donating blood, donating canned goods, hugs not drugs...all capped off by drunken house parties all weekend long, ages 14 and up.

Parents who want to be "cool" are idiots.

Red Ribbon week is fun. We did super hero day, there were 3 very short School nurses and one teacher came dressed as a nurse. They sure know how to get on my good side here, LOL!

Just had the closing ceremony where the "dead" line up, one of the students plays and sings on the piano, as the rest of the students are dismissed. Funny to watch some of the kids laughing, then stopping to read a sign around one of the "dead's" neck as to how they were killed.

Sobering. If one kid gets it, it may make a difference.
