Hi all, I am an RN for a high school of 2500 students. We have 4 high schools in our district, all with about the same amount of students. My high school clinic budget is about 2/3 less than any of what the other three high school nurses get. Principals at each school set the budget, so I have to write a budget proposal for my principal, to convince her that we need as much as the other schools.
I have not found anything online as far as information on high school clinic budgets. The other district nurses tell me that $1 per student is usually the norm. Does anyone know where I can get some information about clinic budgets for high schools?
Also, would you mind doing a poll for me? That might help me see where others stand.
Thanks, really appreciate any responses!

We don't get set budget amounts every year. We turn in our budget requests (they are due today actually) for the next year and then they are approved or not. I have a general idea, but its not a set amount. It also varies because the AED supplies come from my budget and the year that I need to replace batteries is a killer! If I have something big or some piece of equipment I need to replace I put it in the budget and make a point to explain my need and it usually gets approved.

I have a set budget for the year, but I get to spend it as needed throughout the year which is nice. It's probably higher than I actually need, but I am responsible for the AED upkeep and apparently supply tissues and gloves to the school, so...
Do your other district nurses have budget proposals? Could you estimate based on theirs?
We do not get to put in a request for funds. Our principal just assigns us a budget amount for the year. It's entirely up to the principal at each school how much we get. I've never been asked about what I need. My school is the 'poorest' in the district as far as median income of our students' parents.
We do not have to pay to replace AEDs/batteries out of our individual clinic budgets. But I do have other big ticket items that I cannot buy because I don't have the funds. I've been paying out of my own pocket for supplies and equipment once my budget runs out (usually in March).
Thank you for your input, it will help me with my budget proposal, for sure.
