hello to everyone! i've been reading through the threads and it was of great help for me. i'm a 2nd courser scouting for a REPUTABLE school to attend. i've inquired and have been assessed in different institutions, but these two stand out (because of their programs, schooling duration and proximity), dr. carlos lanting and st. joseph. not to start any flaming between graduates and students of both schools, pero i'd like to hear some feedback regarding these schools. any input will be much appreciated. TIA and more power!
Hi guys! hope this will help u and hope to see u in this school. i'm a chemist and me & my other professional friends are also second courser of nursing. we visited this school and find it of good standards... we checked on the backgrounds of the personality behind this institution and learned this is spearheaded by reputable professionals, the president an alumnae of UP..... this school has evening class and weekend class prgrams for working students like us who can't afford to give up our present paying jobs.... we'll be starting by the 3rd-4th week of November, we're excited coz we'll be the pioneering batch of this progam for 2nd courser..what we also like is that the class will only accommodate the ideal number students so the focus and attention in the classroom is not a problem..you can still catch up with the enrollment..... they have also ongoing regular class for regular students.... and they really have state of the art facilities and classrooms....the affiliated hospitals are the neighboring hospitals in QC...hope to see u guys, those of you who are looking for schools with program for working professionals...
ps.. if u worry coz the school just opened its nursing program last june 2005, we verified with CHED and the school and its programs are accredited....they accept second courser with ages up to 45 y.o.
we're really excited to be the first batch of the second courser enrolled in the evening wkend class for working students... hope u join us so we can be merrier....

For everyone still in the process of choosing a school-----In choosing a nursing school, one might put into consideration the school's location, environment, facilities, and things like that. It's alright because choosing a school is a personal choice and you have your reasons for doing so. But, the two most important things to consider are: is that Nursing school Program duly recognized in the Philippines and elsewhere? Second, what is the track record of its graduates---what happened to them afterwards---were they allowed to take the local board, were they able to take the NCLEX, were they employed in hospitals locally and abroad? This is just a word of warning because I personally know of someone who is a US Citizen and went to study Nursing in the Philippines and after taking up majority of her pre-clinical subjects (like Anatomy and Microbiology), rumors in her school circulated that they don't have the legitimate permits to operate. She was able to confirm this eventually, so she transferred to another school. She ended up repeating all the subjects she took from the former school and got delayed by about a year. Good thing though is that she caught the thing earlier. I am not naming the school because it's not very necessary to name it here---the bottom line is, it is important that you do your homework by being cautious and doing your research before you enroll in any nursing program. I wish you the best!
it's not the school that matters but the student...
i checked that link with the number of examinees and passers... it looks like not everyone takes the board exam anymore... feu is supposed to be a good school but look at their percentage! so many takers and so many fail... i'm amazed to see the number for my school, our lady of fatima. this october alone i believe 700 graduated. so i'm sure more graduated last march and so on...
i'm on my 2nd sem of nursing at olfu.. the only thing i hate is that i was clueless last sem and was not given intro to anatomy so i can't take healthcare 1 yet this 2nd sem... which draws me back one sem! and all these subjects: healthcare 1, 2, ncm 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 can only be taken one sem at a time... so 8 more semesters for me. i hope some of these are available in the summer so i can take them and graduate fast.
i was an education student from feu and pnu but only about 10 subjects were credited all in all. fatima is really affordable, compared to some schools. sorry but i don't think feu is worth the 37+ tuition fees. i know some people look for prestigious schools but fatima is pretty good. on your last year of nursing they prepare you for the nle and nclex. i've asked some graduating students from other school and their school didn't review them for the two exams. fatima is also a good school because their exams are departmental, so the student doesn't just rely to what is being taught but also needs to study on the side. (actually just read your book) and there is no age limit, some of my schoolmates are even lolos already.

Sad to say, I am not a graduate of anyone of these schools. Only in the Philippines where we so proudly say I am a graduate of this and that so called famous school and top ten school. :zzzzz
Here, where you came from does not matter. Only if you get the job done that matters.:pumpiron:
anyone who graduated from lanting? do you have healthcare 1, healthcare 2, ncm 100, 101, 102, 103, 104 and 105? these are the nursing subjects at olfu that you can only take 1 per sem so those alone will take 8 sems. i was so upset coz my first time at olfu no one cared to give me intro to ana, i didn't know it was a prerequisite for healthcare 1... if i had known i would have taken it my first sem, saving me one sem in total... i can take healthcare 1 during the summer but that still leaves me a long long time stay in college. at fatima the subjects needed to be taken before the majors are:
pe 1, 2, 3, 4,
nstp 1, nstp 2,
psychology,
health ethics,
logic,
philo of man
asian civilization,
english,
filipino, chem,
phsycis,
intro to ana,
strategies of health teaching
anatomy & physiology
speech with lab
math
statistics
rizal
philippine history
philippine gov. and consti
and more...

Very true! I am also not a graduate of those schools but I am not "sad to say" that. In fact, I am proud of having graduated from my school. Without naming names, I've looked at my school's performance in the NLE and their numbers are pretty decent for a large university-belt college. I don't mean to brag but I earned a spot in the top 20 board exam scores during my time (NLE June 1991). However, I attribute that success to my own hard work and determination more than the school's professors and instructors.

When I said " sad to say" I mean it as a joke on the first sentence of the paragraph because I am not a graduate of any one of these top schools.
I am proud of my school and proud to say that more than half of our batch are in the US while the rest are in the UK, Ireland and the Middle East.
By the way, I belong to the Batch 1991 and took and passed the NLE in June 1991. I remember the Pinatubo eruption at that time. I think you also remember that more than 20,000 took the exam at the time and less than 50% passed the NLE.
Also, I'm entering my 9th month here.

I know what you meant the first time around, I was just messing with you. "Sad to say" is a common expression we Filipinos use. Anyway, I'm glad to know someone here is from the same batch as I am. I almost forgot about that Pinatubo eruption until you brought it up in your post. The aftermath was quite a sight to behold -- everything's covered in a layer of ash. What I do remember about that NLE is that it took until December before we got our results. I heard it is much faster for the PRC to release results now. At least, that's some progress, huh? So did you work somehwere else before you came to the US?

@jmsl: i'm a BSOT grad and they said it'll take me 2 years, or 2 1/2 years tops.
@dingdong: yes, they do have a separate program for 2nd coursers.
