scholarship & pell grant

Published

Hey guys,

I recently got accepted to a nursing program for Fall 2015. I wanted to know if you have a full scholarship and a pell grant. Can you use the scholarship for tut ions and books & receive the pell grant in full to spend as you please?

Um no? Your scholarship and grant will pay all of your tuition, room and board (if applicable), and fees before you see any money. You can request a book voucher through your school's financial aid office. Anything left after all of that MIGHT come to you as a check...

Reason why I'm asking is because my job offers a full scholarship which pay for tuition, books, and other related fees. I want to use that (schloarship) as a mean to pay for all my schooling fees. I wanted to know since my tuition will already be paid for, will fasfa still disburse my pell grant that I'm eligible for to me? I wanted to have a little extra money so I can help pay bills.

After tuition is paid, the grant will come to you to do as you please, but I would suggest seeing it aside for all of the random expenses that crop up for equipment, study sessions, exams, etc. I've found nursing school to be incredibly nickel and diming! Also, see somebody at the financial aid office and make sure you are still good for the Pell. The scholarship might change that, ?

If you use your grant for bills it may be taxable as income

I received a full tuition scholarship and a pell grant during college for my first two years. My scholarship paid tuition, book services, and fees. My pell grant deposited into my account. I suggest saving every dime of that money if you can. I ended up using most of that grant for supplies, gas, an unexpected extra semester, Hurst, NCLEX, etc. However, it is yours to use as you see fit. Be aware if your grades slip that your scholarship and grant will not be available to you, so be diligent in your studies! Congratulations on your acceptance into nursing school! :)

Yes, the money will be disbursed to you directly if all of your school fees are already paid for. Good luck!

Depending on howuch your job pays, you may or may not qualify for Pell. I only started getting Pell the year my brother started college because my expected family contribution dropped. It might be nice to have that extra money for miscellaneous costs so I say go for it. Talk to financial aid and do the fasfa

Lucky you!! It would be wise to set aside an emergency fund to deal with those pesky things that can derail you in mid-semester. Best of luck to you in your nursing education.
