Hello...I will be starting my first semester of nursing school in August. While I'm THRILLED and ready to jump in with both feet, I'm scared to death! I think I'm scared of the "unknown" as it's different than other majors. Has anyone else dealt with this fear and how did you handle it? :chair:
Thank you!!!
I have known that I am supposed to be a nurse all my life. It took me until the age of 29 to actually do anything about it. I have started at the LPN level (graduating in 2008) and hopefully to go straight into an RN program. I too am here for moral support, B-cuz I will sure need it when I go into my clinicals in the fall. Take good notes, if you can get the books before hand and review. Good LUCK
I start school in Aug and I just got a letter from my school for a NS workshop day 2 weeks before school starts! How great is this?! apparently my school has received a grant to do this to help with new student retention. They will have sections on nursing math, time mgmt., test taking and test anxiety, critical thinking, and the characteristics of a successful nursing student. I can't wait to go, not just for the help, but because I'm having a hard time with the waiting to start part. I am not scared about anything but the math. I am not good at math at all and struggled to get a "C" in my prereqs.I worked in a hospital as a CNA for 4 years, so I helped with procedures and watched a lot of stuff, I also got really good at taking blood and reading an EKG and taking vitals signs. It all just makes me want to keep learning more and more!!!:balloons:

I too am starting nursing school on Aug. 21st and scared to death of the clinical aspects. The book learning doesn't bother me, at 48 I have learned to work and study...
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one whose stomach is doing flip flops!
