I graduated this may with a bachelors in Psych and am getting a second BSN. I have to take a few pre reqs this semester and spring semester...
Over the summer I have gotten LOTS of material on a and p, microbiology and other things of the like including LOTS of nursing books (nursing made incredibly easy) just to get a jump start... couldn't hurt.
I discovered this morning when I was telling a fellow coworker my plans and why I was taking this route..
I am freaking scared to DEATH!!!
What if I'm no good at this.... what if I'm not accepted... what if I fail a class... what if I skim by on the minimum and then KILL someone!!!

I think MOST pre-nursing/nursing students have some fear. The best thing you can do is use that fear to motivate you to do your best. There will be bumps in the road but set your mind to get it done and then do it. It's a step at a time.

I completely understand you. I was a nursing major at your age, but changed majors out of the fear that I would kill someone. I had no self-confidence.
I am now going back at age 37, and I have a lot of confidence. (having babies and being a mother did it for me, along with just general maturity and life experience)
All I can give you for advice is to make sure you talk about these insecurities with many people- friends, fellow students, instructors, etc. I think the more you talk about it, and see that others feel the same way, you might be able to overcome it. I know when I was younger, I bottled it up because I was afraid to look stupid in front of others. I just quietly quit the program. Of course I regret it now, because most nurses say they felt similar things.
Good luck.

Well, first of all I have to say that stuff is normal...to think all of those things..But I am the same age as you and it crossed my mind a little bit but you just have to think about how bad you want this. I want this so bad that me going through with it is going to over power me having a nervous break down..Just calm down..and think about the positive things...like how this is well worth it..and when people tell you negative things its just because they wanna discourage you because they dont wanna see you do something great! Because being a nurse is going to be great..so turn this:banghead: into this:nurse::loveya:

I agree with other posters that your feelings are completely on with other nursing students to be. What if you fail a class? You'll take it again! What if you don't like it? You'll find something else you'll like. I felt the exact same way and I found that if I take my fears just one at a time, they don't seem so big. Not that you need my advice, but just take it one class at a time. You already have a ba and although ns is so much different, you have experience working your butt off for something. Relax and you'll do fine. Good luck to you
I would like to thank you all for dealing with my almost nervous breakdown...
Everyone around me is like "Well you chose this so......." pretty much get over it...
I just don't think they think I'm dedicated... I mean I was soooo dedicated to being a psychologist and NOW look at me... I don't have a very good track record so far, lol.

lol, I know what you mean. I also have a BA in Psychology, haven't done squat w/ it! Always intended to go to grad school..
But I've realized now that nursing is where I want to be, and so have you, so just keep focused, remain positive, and I am quoting someone from this website (I don't remember who, I'm sorry...) but let the haters be motivators! I think that's a great line and I often end up repeating that to myself when negative people w/ negative vibes come around..
You can do this, good luck!

I'm pretty scared, too. I'm scared of taking the pre-reqs, of course, but I've also had the thought, "What is I screw up as a nurse?" Seriously, the stakes are so high. I can get kind of absent-minded at times. Like, I can't find my keys, or something. So, it worries me that I'll forget something super important while I'm on the floor.

I'm at the same boat as you! I'm graduating with a BA in Biology by June '09 and am thinking of doing nursing. I too have to fear of pre-reqs, not getting in, and just being the newbie on the floor! But hey, from reading all the post here.. i'm sure you'll find that everyone feels the same way! It's normal to feel aprehensive at times, but you just have to take the chance! You'll never know unless you try. There will always be people bringing you down, but just use that as your advantage and prove them wrong! So what if you dont want to be a Psychologist.. people change their minds thousands of times. A lot of people dont even do anything close to the field of their bachelors after graduating. So... Just go for it! Good luck! ^_^
