Scared of NCLEX

Published

I take the NCLEX-RN on the 7th, and I'm scared. I thought I wasn't, but as the day draws closer I feel scared. I got an A in level 1, a 93.4% overall in level 2, an A in level 3 and a B in level 4. I practice a couple hundred questions a day, but I'm only averaging about 75% correct answers on the practice tests. I know that about 90% of the people who take the test pass it the first time, but I'm still scared. Can anyone please offer any words of wisdom or if not that, comfort?

Stop studying and relax. You best friend this week is rest, good sleep, eating well and preparing your body to take this test in a relaxed state.

You know this stuff. You will pass. If you get yourself overly stressed you may freeze up. I did the relaxation bit for boards, advice from an older nurse. It got me thru without a problem.

Go to the bookstore tomorrow and buy a non nursing book. Go sit in the sun. Have some lemonade. Picture your smiling face on June 8th. Plan your victory dinner.

You will pass, you already know it.

90% pass right the first time? Awesome, is that number right? When I took my national certified pharmacy tech exam I was really nervous even though the national pass rate was around 75% - 80%. I kept doing hundreds of test questions etc.. myself. The day of the exam I was in a room with about 100 other people. I was looking around going, hmmmm at the end of this exam about 20 people will not have passed this test. The other 80 will end up totally thrilled... I then thought, "You know what, as hard as I've worked there's no way in hell I'm gonna be one of the 20." And, guess what, I totally relaxed and had a great exam. Of course I didn't have near as much riding on that exam as nurses have riding on the NCLEX.. so I will only say, good luck, it sounds like you're going to do great!

You are in the norm if you are nerveous. Sounds like you've prepared yourself well so take a break, relax. Rent some slap-happy DVD's ( I watched Happy Gillmore the night before my exam) and take your mind off of the test.:)

Don't worry about it. I know that is easier said than done, but you are doing really well. I believe most books say that you are good as long as you stay around 75% on the practice tests. Good luck!

Thanks, all, for the encouragement. They say if I take the test on the 7th, I'll probably know if I passed or failed that Friday. We'll see. When I know if I passed or failed, I'll come back and report how it went.

You will do fine. Good luck.

I totally understand how you feel, I think we all do. Please take a deep breath, relax. You know what you're doing. You got really good grades, you really want to be a nurse, you will be fine. The night before the test, go to a movie, and dinner with friends, laugh, have fun. I know it's difficult, but if you totallt stress out, then you may not do as well. Eat a good breakfast the day of the test, and just tell yourself that you will pass, there's no other option. I will say a little prayer for you. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Relax. There is a theory out there that one can study to much. I know it happened in my class when we took boards several years ago. You wouldnt believe the number of people of higher standing in the class that didnt pass, why they studied to much. My self once shcool was over in mid May had to wait till mid June for my test notice. Took the test on like the 28th of June- how much did I study - I didnt and passed. If you study to the last minute you can some times you overload your mind.

I agree with some of the other posters. Treat yourself to a night out. Go to bed early the night before. If you have to travel more than a few mins to the test center city drive the day before.

Good Luck you will be fine. 13_1_201.gifRj
