Saying "Goodnight" to patients

Just curious...how many of you make it a point to say "goodnight" or "good-day" to your patients at the end of shift? I know that most of us are so busy and soooo ready to go home at the end of shift that we give report and hit the road ASAP. I feel like it would be a nice thing to wish my patients well but don't always make a point of doing so. What do you guys think?

I ususally say good night when I do my last med pass for the night.

On days, I don't make rounds specifically to say goodbye, but I'll say it to whoever I see on my way out the door.

On evenings, I don't make rounds to say goodnight either, though I'll do it if I see them on their way to the room for the night, or if they're coming up to the desk for their PRN sleep aid.

At HS I tell them good night when I pass thier final meds. I will also tell them if they have anything going on that means I will be waking them up @ 0200.

If I'm giving someone early morning meds I tell them I will be leaving in about an hour or so, or if they have blood work, ECGs, X-rays, etc. scheduled for that morning. I also like to let them know whether I will be back that night or it will be someone else. But I don't wake someone up just to tell them to have a nice day.

When I leave at 0700 and they're awake and have been pleasant to me, I say something like "hope you have a great day and can get out of here soon!" (playfully)(when applicable.) LOL

I made it a point while working in LTC at the end of the shift to stop by all 25 patient rooms and say goodbye
