Stars glad no damage despite the wind and the rain

NJ22 I think that the migrations may be beginning soon

Tweety glad no damage, too bad your trip had to be cancelled.  Hopefully the power is back on soon

Hi TMB

Crunch glad the new job is less stressful

Dianah hopefully the side effects remain mild

Work was mostly good yesterday, although towards the end of the day things got busy with emails and documents, but it didn't get too bad

Decided to do the grocery shopping and stop at the library after work. Originally planned to do those Sat morning instead of bird watching due to the rain, but figured grocery shopping in the rain would be too tricky.

Was going to stay in this morning and make waffles, but it looks like the rain will be pretty minimal here so I'll head out bird watching as usual.  Then will have lunch with dad.  Then tonight have a dinner with the over 50 group, looks like there will be about 5 of us, so a small crowd

Will be a bit cooler today, will get up to about 70.

Tweety, I'm sorry your trip had to be canned but glad you are safe. My BIL once slid off the road in his car during a flash flood and the car was totaled due to being flooded. Hopefully insurance will do right by your BF.

The music festival is today. Hubs has a project he wants me and Twin A to help with so I'll do that first. I'll check in with the hospital staff to be sure all is well at the first aid tent. The weather is just about perfect for it. We assumed our biggest concerns would be dehydration and heat exhaustion so it is good that it is only to be in the mid-80s.

Joe, looks like a full day.

TMB agree that insurance is a good thing.

Crunch glad for the low stress job for you.

Stars, glad you're okay with all that rain.

Ado, enjoy the festival.

Thanks for everyone's concerns and comments.

My hopes of getting power today are fading but it looks like 100,000 people have been restored and 120,00 to go in this county alone.  They think by midnight tomorrow.  We have a heat index of 100 it's so muggy and zero breeze.  I went to the gym but their power is out and they closed.

Best friend got power yesterday but the water was shut off today.  The barrier island where he lives is shut down so I can't visit and enjoy his air conditioning.  The insurance adjuster is coming to check out his car in person Monday or Tuesday (if they let him in) because tow trucks are so backed up.

Other than power outages most of us faired well.  People in low lying areas near water not so much.

Hello all!

Tweety, the images from the aftermath of the hurricane are downright scary.  What a lot of cleanup there is now!!  Good you are safe, though uncomfortably hot.  I hope you don't lose any food, and that your power is restored soon.

nursej22, enjoy the music festival!

Joe, enjoy birdwatching and the dinner!

I didn't sleep well but other than that (which is fairly "normal" for me, it seems), I really can't report any deleterious effects from the flu shot!  My arm isn't even sore.  Maybe I will get the Covid vaccine next week.

We are scheduled to have a Zoom call with our ds's tomorrow.  Will be nice to catch up.

It is 85 degrees out.  So nice to NOT have triple-digit temps!  Yay fall!

Have a good evening!

It was somewhere in the 70's and humid today. I went out to the mailbox, but there was nothing there yet, so I picked up a bunch of small branches off the front lawn.

I did all the dishes (finally, and again). I don't think I did anything else today. Nanny napped for a while, but I didn't get energetic about doing any tasks or chores or projects during that time. I have managed to mess up my new room because I didn't follow along after myself and keep it clean as I went, and I still have clean clothes to put away. Tomorrow I have GOT to change my bed and do a little of my own laundry, but first I'll have to get laundry detergent, spot treatments and dryer sheets.

It hasn't been an aggravating day, which I appreciate, and Nannie only asked me one time if we were going to go out. When I said no, we didn't have anything planned and no one was coming over, she accepted that.

Going out to check the mailbox again. They may not have had a 'timely' delivery today because ...from what I hear....many secondary roads are closed to traffic, and I-40 and I-77 are both forbidden to travel on!

Tomorrow is another day. Tweety I sure hope you get your power restored again SOON. I can't imagine, at my age, of getting along without AC, especially down where you live. I have never been a fan of the Summer-time weather. I never had any AC until I was, um, 28 years old (?) so I was acclimated, but no more!

All for now. Everyone have a good rest-of-the-weekend!

Ado~ What was that photo of? I noticed a corner of a caboose. After I saw Harold and Maude, I wanted to live in a caboose.

Stars, there is a caboose downtown in my little town. One of our neighbors when I was growing up --and good friends of my parents -- worked for the railroad for many years and somehow acquired the caboose. They had it in their yard for years but late donated it to the city to honor their son, who also worked for the railroad but died young (32) of a brain aneurysm. So the city made a spot for it in a kind of plaza.

The building to the left was a hotel back in the early days. It started as a railroad town pre-statehood in the Indian Territory. Just across the river was the Oklahoma Territory.

Hi all.

Thank you for sharing the pics, Annie. I love old trains. There are a few old steam engines in city parks around here. Logging and mining were important industries in the past, and of course, trains were a part of that.

I thought I heard on a car fix-it show on the radio that a flooded car should always be totaled, and you always do a search on used cars to be sure they weren't flooded. I saw a clip on the internet that perhaps electric cars that get flooded can catch on fire? Yikes!

The videos on line of Florida, NC and Tennessee are awful. That kind of heat and humidity sound miserable.

I did the second part of the hypertufa course this morning, then came home to watch educational seminars. Then out to clean up dog waste, and dig up some peonies. Tomorrow am I am going to a workshop to learn how to divide peonies. I will donate most of what I take for the plant sale next Spring.

youngest ds made chili and corn bread for dinner, yum.
