It is Nannie's 95th birthday today but it isn't going to be mentioned until tomorrow, and tomorrow is when they are taking her out to eat somewhere. She really won't remember ANY of it by the time she gets brought home. SiL said she would come over and give Nannie a shower, get her dressed, and then take her away. (But only for the afternoon.) I am thinking I most likely will not go out with them. If it was just BiL and SiL and me, I'd go, but I have had more than enough time with Nannie every day, every week, every month, and every year to want to spend even more time with her, if I have a chance to be alone! Just call me Greta Garbo: "I just want to be left alone."
For the last 45 minutes, we have been "discussing" the little green lizard (skink) on the screen....it is sunbathing, and waiting for an ignorant little insect to wander in to its immediate area, and then *SNAP* swallow it down! Most of what Nannie was saying was in the tiny, unclear, soprano-range voice from the back of her throat (instead of projecting it from the diaphragm) with barely any audible pronunciation of the words. I had told her earlier that I could not hear or understand her, but she just kept on with that "tone", so basically I am ignoring her but putting in my 2 cents with an "Uh-huh" every so often, and other things that may indicate I am paying attention when I am not! That one phrase is all-purpose, depending on the accentuation you can provide to it.
So, it's a long, dull, mostly quiet day. I should probably put Nannie's wash from yesterday into the dryer now. News might be on, unless there is some kind of ballgame. Last weekend I think that 7 of the stations we might consider watching .....ALL had College Football games on. (meh and blah!)
Suppertime is slowly approaching .....cue the music from JAWS.
Another quiet day, and rather cool, off and on rain sprinkles. Walk/jog this morning, then helped ds finish cleaning his room in anticipation of new bed delivery. I pointed out for the umpteenth time that if he vacuumed from time to time, his allergies would be less. But what do I know? He's now out buying new sheets.
The bbq for the food bank volunteers went well last night, even though it rained. It was held at an old restored barn that's used for events. We brought home some leftovers: pumpkin and apple pie and some cheese slices. Grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner tonight.
Right now we are watching the Great British Baking Show on Netflix.
😖 😫 🤯
It's tough to remain polite and calm when Nannie will just NOT stop talking; it would be different if she made any sense, but she changes the subjects several times at any point throughout her barely audible sentences, and of course, it somehow always goes back to connecting (in her mind) to her SHOES, after which she shows me how the pattern on her jacket goes all the way up one sleeve and around the front and down the other sleeve, and her sleeves of the jersey under the jacket go all the way to her wrist. See? See? See? (YESSSSSS I SEE! ) OMG.
That's all I have to say. 😫 🤐
I'm going to share a picture Hubs took this morning. We had a little lightning and thunder but no rain and it cleared up and probably got to 90.
I bought groceries and changed/washed sheets. Then decided I wanted a toaster oven to replace the one that quit working long ago. And Twin A is wanting to try making our own "lava cakes" so we got ramekins. That means sometime during the holidays I must try my hand at creme brulee.
Church tomorrow plus singing at the nursing home.
Wow, great photo, Ado!! What a beautiful sight!
We have had a quiet day. Within the last 24 hours, have received word of two dear friends' deaths. One was "expected" (a slow recent decline), and the other a complete surprise. Just dealing with these, and the families are all in my prayers as THEY process this new state of things. Hug your loved ones and tell them -- show them! -- you love them, so you are sure they know it.
I cancelled a reservation we had made at a steakhouse in Palm Desert for tomorrow evening. We were planning to go hear our friends play jazz there, but kinda don't have the heart for it now. We will do it another time. We decided to meet up with oldest ds for lunch, locally, at a Vietnamese restaurant, to have pho ha (soup).
With cooler, moister weather, the fires are advancing much more slowly, and control is increasing, though not yet at 100 (or even 50)%. A man was arrested yesterday, suspected of starting at least one of the fires. Too bad, in the case of arson, it's too little too late, as the damage is done.
I hope you all have a good evening.
Quiet day. YAY!
The iL's came and got Nannie about three hours ago. I've got some of her laundry going in the washer. Washed a few glasses and pieces of silverware. Changed Momo's pee-pad. Emptied all wastebaskets. Now I am eating taquitos, and sitting around ditzing here and there on-line. This is the kind of 'excitement ' I could stand a lot more of!
Ado~ What a beautiful sky photo! Wish I had had a camera when I saw the clouds looking like the bottom of an egg-carton, if you can picture that. It was kind of unusual, I thought.
Have had Momo for one year now. 🐶 Yappy Anniversary!

TMB wow you were lucky to be alive after that
Stars a good idea to discuss having someone else come and give you a day off
Work was not bad yesterday, despite having a coworker off. After work I stopped by the library and then went to the potluck with the gay group. My broccoli salad went quickly. Met a new person there who is studying to become a nurse after having a career in business.
Today will drop by the Arboretum, then later will have lunch with dad. Then attending a dinner with the over 50 group at an Italian restaurant. The lady organizing it has been to my events, and I've been trying to get to one of hers but not had the chance until now
Weather continues here pretty much the same, mid to upper 80s
