Good morning!
Joe, gay softball is a thing here. I think they have two different leagues one for fun and one for serious. I know several people my age that participate so it must be fun. Working every other weekend stops me from joining such stuff. Pickleball does seem to be all the rage these days.
Our version of Spring has already arrived as it's in the 80's this week. That usually doesn't start until March. But we're often food and have a cold snap in March.
Off today and hope to make hot yoga class and mow the weeds.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I remember spending a month doing private duty at the end of Feb and the beginning of March in Lantana, Florida (about a block and a half from The Enquirer!). The temp was 92 and a girl said to me that it was beginning to feel and smell like Spring. I thought she was out of her mind! 92 is a summertime temp, and I don't know what she was smelling!
Then it was very weird to fly back up to Mass. and have to land at a smaller airport because Logan Airport was dealing with so much snow on the runways, and the big commercial planes were wanting to land or take off. We (my VERY rich patient and I) were in a 6-seat private "Executive" Lear Jet she rented because she had rheumatoid arthritis and couldn't sit in commercial jet seats. They laid down three seats and put her stretcher across them and belted her in. We had a plateful of delicious ham sandwiches and home-made cookies, and NO BATHROOM!! If I had to fork out lots of dough to rent a jet, they better have a toilet in it! Well, we made it back without any fuss or bother, and headed straight to the little airport's ladies room! Then my patient's mother's chauffer (sp?) drove us (very slowly, over snowy roads) back to my patient's house. The first time I've ever been in a Lear Jet or a limousine, and prolly the last time, as well!
Currently cloudy, a chilly 50-ish, light rain. We can't watch out usual local TV news because there is a hockey game on that channel that is only just into the start of the third quarter. Soooo, the reason I mention this at all is because Nannie doesn't know who any of the news reporters are, and she wonders what happened to the 'girls' on the channel we watch. Explain, explain, explain, but all to no avail.
She is also c/o "all the big animals in our back yard" : which are actually may be 3 'large' birds (woodpecker, bluejay, and doves) and one big orange boycat (man-cat). She says she doesn't like to have to watch them all! Hubby said she didn't "have to" watch them. I will halt this potential aggravating disagreement by closing the drapes!
Later!
Hey ho. It's cold, mid 20s and overcast. Still no snow falling. I tried to go for a run, but my fingers got numb and my knees were stiff with the cold. I got about 2 miles in. Then home to listen to "Wait, Wait" on the radio. It was a compilation of past shows, so not as interesting to me as when they do the current news. I started working on a new jigsaw puzzle. It has a code puzzle within the picture, and the picture is not the same as the box. It's quite a challenge. I am also trying read my homework, but it's a little dry.
Pickle ball is popular around here although I've never tried it. Softball is quite popular. In fact I think you have to know someone on a team to join.
There was a little downy woodpecker in the tree just outside the living room window, fun to see it up close. The migrating robins cleaned all of the berries off the cotoneaster in a day. This happens every Winter. The red berries hang on and then poof, one day they're gone. There was a flicker and varied thrushes at the feeders this morning. We usually only see them when it's really cold.
I am going to try to make fried chicken in the air fryer tonight. I meant to do it last night, as dh said he had thawed out some drumsticks. Except, all I could find were some gigantic chicken breasts that were frozen solid. And then he got miffed because I hadn't looked earlier. Sigh. So I am going to cook them tonight.
I've never been on a Lear jet. But I've ridden in a limo. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I prefer smaller, sportier cars.
Flying along in the Lear jet was interesting because it was way up twice as high as commercial planes fly, and when you looked down on them they appeared to be about the size of a mosquito! Strange! I've never been that high before or since. (snicker-snicker ?.)
Anyway, j22, How DAST you fail to look for the 'correct' chicken pieces! Tsk!?
Housework day. Not that I did very much but got some laundry done, the kitchen cleaned up, and some trash gathered from the bedroom and taken to the trash bin. We don't have curbside recycling, wish we did. We do collect the stuff they'll accept at the station (aluminum, plastic, cardboard) and Hubs takes it there once a week.
Dory is sleeping a lot, perhaps because she's getting a muscle relaxer (robaxin). She also has prednisone.
It is like someone flipped a switch with Gma. She sleeps a lot, doesn't get angry, and says she "likes this place". Her appetite is reduced. We'll watch to see if she's not eating enough and get supplements if we need to. Quite a change from wanting to eat all the time and being told by the doctor she needs to lose some weight
Well, time to go move some more stuff to the dryer.

Had yesterday off, was fairly quiet. Made pancakes and bacon in the morning, and ran a few errands. In the afternoon went for a walk and did the laundry. Dropped by the yoga studio but they were closed, so I signed up for a class online for Wed. Met J for dinner at our usual place
Have been thinking about sports as a way to socialize. I looked into bowling leagues at one time but seemed difficult to find one. I'm also wanting to avoid anything that might attract more hard core athletes. The counselor suggested pickleball, which apparently is growing a lot in popularity and is pretty easy
Today will stop at the arboretum briefly, mostly to check out the gift shop. Might walk around a bit, although it's pretty cold and it appears we had snow last night. Will have lunch with dad as usual. Thankfully will be a quieter weekend than usual, as no cooking, baking, or laundry to do
