Woke up at 9:30 AM, and felt, for some reason, bummed out. Not sure if that was from a dream or just 'the phase of the moon." What awakened me was the sound of the trash trucks picking up trash and recycling bins and dumping them. What? On a Saturday??? Usually we have pick up on Fridays....which I didn't even think of and missed putting out our bins. Oh well.
The highs today and for the rest of the week will be in the low 50's. At least it is sunny today. Speaking of which, it is time to get Nannie up. ( OY to the world.)
Still too sleepy and slightly crabby feeling to summon spit for any activity. I do have to go get some dog food. I got some at Walmart the other day, but they had a very poor selection, so I only got four little cans. The selection at Food Lion is better. BUT>>>the one thing I really need to get is some underpads for Nannie. Don't know why this week the underpads have disappeared from several stores shelves. Suddenly, at Christmas, the run on underpads and subsequent shortage is profound. Why? I dunno.
Okay, have to stop dawdling and do my 'job' now....
Good morning!
Joe, hope you have a nice day off.
Stars, I heard of an adult diaper and incontinence supply shortage during covid hoarding days along with toilet paper but not lately.
Dianah, trust you're on the mend.
I had a strange night. Stayed up real late because of sleeping so much yesterday and couldn't sleep even though it was 2AM. Finally at 3AM I took a sleeping pill. Feel asleep until about 7:30. Going to stay up because I have to go to bed early and work tomorrow. Then I have off Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.
I spent the better part of last evening and some of this morning working on a puzzle that my dad gave best friend. Turns out best friend hates puzzles and wanted to return it. Rather than hurt dad's feelings I did it and rather enjoyed it. Took so long I don't think it's a hobby I'll pick up until I retire.
I'll spend some time writing down some goals for the new year and review. I have to revise my budget to accommodate higher car insurance. Hard to believe at this stage making top dollar I'm going to be struggling to spend within my means, save and travel. I realize it's very middle class as so many people can't travel or save, but to see my disposable income fall is a bit discouraging.
Hello all!
I have emerged from the Abyss! Last night I went straight to bed after making us a light supper of fried eggs and toast. Just HAD to go to bed after! Then slept on and off, till 0930 this morning! I readjusted position a couple times (couldn't quite handle lying flat yet). I feel actually HUMAN this morning! Dh feeling same, so we must be on the up-swing of this thing, whatever it was. We tested negative for Covid when we first got sick, so don't think it's that. From the symptoms, just a heavy cold. Feeling shaky and a little sweaty this morning, but not overwhelmed by it all, as before.
Tweety, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles but have never had one here at the house. Cats, yanno. ? Friends used to have one set up on a table in the family room, and it was a family activity (and guests who came to visit) to do what they could with the puzzle. Community effort.
No Stars, probably trash pickup was on Sat due to the holiday... Hope today with Nannie is better than yesterday.
Joe, enjoy your birdwatching! Why do ppl use a monopod as opposed to a tripod?
Today will be a rest-and-recovery day, though we need a few things from the grocery store.
Have a good day!
Got back with the groceries, a magazine and a paperback book. Did find a pkg of underpads. (w00t.) Momo blessed me out again: yip-yap-squeak-bark-whine. Now that I am beside her on the sofa, she is a happy camper and has conked out. Nannie is dozing, as well.
I've got some more dishes to wash (Nannie's juice glasses, spoons, and 4 Momo plates, and a take-home container that SiL's leftover lasagna was in. BUT Nannie's bedding was dry this morning. When I got her up she had on 2 pairs of pj bottoms, one inside out. And there was another pair of dry pj bottoms she had rolled up and put under her neck! It's always an adventure to go into her room and see what she was up to overnight; what she took out and what she put away, often in the wrong places.
I didn't fall asleep until after 3 AM....and I found my Xanax on the floor when I got up, so I guess when I tossed it into my mouth, I missed!
Jigsaw puzzles! I knew a man who did them every afternoon after lunchtime....for about 2 hours, and then he took a nap. I'm not really very fond of them myself, but I will sometimes help someone out with one (but not lately). Actually it reminds me of a song by the McGarrigle Sisters: "We were like interlocking pieces in the jigsaw puzzle of life." (how romantic.)
Will prolly continue being a sloth for the remainder of the day. However, I do plan on doing the dishes while Nannie's supper is cooking, so there's that, anyway.
Glad you are feeling better, dianah!
Joe, I've never had ouzo but isn't it licorice flavored? I'd like that in small doses.
Tweety, we have a puzzle from the petrified Forest that we must have bought there in March. I enjoy doing them but it does take time and I don't want to give up the table space right now. Will be interesting to see what happens with our car insurance rates after Twin A's accident. Not interesting in a good way. I get discouraged sometimes that we can't save money. I do wish the boys could/would be more self-supporting.
We put together the compost bin today. Now to decide where to put it. And read up again on how to get started. We need some "brown" things. There are a lot of leaves in the yard and I believe they count as brown.
Hubs went up to the lake because his friend was going to remove wheels from his trailer so he can get new tires and Hubs was going to help. So Gma and I are hanging out. I need to take her to the bathroom soon. Since we started hospice, the hospice people have brought underpads, both disposable and washable. Gma has an oral antibiotic now for her eyes because she ended up having some cellulitis. The provider says they are seeing more of this and don't know why.
Will also go out to the store today. We need some basics and we like to have a spread of goodies for NYE. Twin A is supposed to go back to work tomorrow. He is still pretty sore.
Still mild weather here, mid 50s, with spits of rain. The mountains needs snow to build up snowpack, and the lowlands need to re charge aquifers. I don't miss icy sidewalks, though. I did 3 miles walk/jog this morning. Cutting back on wheat and using voltaren on my knees seems to help.
its dh's 67th birthday today. We talked about going out to dinner, but dd asked if we could take the grandkids for the evening, maybe go see a movie.
I was reading an article in the Washington Post this am about home insurance in Florida. I'm sure it's a beautiful state but I wonder how people can afford insurance. Good luck, Tweety.
Yes, Annie, old leaves are brown things. Fresh green leaves, grass clippings, young weeds are green things.
I am guessing a monopod would be lighter in weight and a tripod?
I do jigsaw puzzles on a laptop, so I can zoom in. Our family started a physical one on a card table, but I'm struggling with the overhead light glare. I enjoy word puzzles in the NYTimes and WA Post. Keeps the synapses firing.

Tweety it seems that a lot of people have been experiencing significant increases in car insurance
Ado that was good that he was able to get into the car
NJ22 wish it was mild here
Stars I hope the financial hold ups get resolved soon, I know how long you've been working to resolve those
Hope you feel better Dianah
Hi sirI an TMB
Was hoping yesterday would be fairly slow, and while it wasn't as bad as the previous day it did get busy at times. Both myself and the person covering for me got new files in the afternoon. Which is weird because most of the staff was leaving early that day. Thankfully they didn't need to be touched until Tuesday, though I did do the initial stuff on both
Rest of the day was fine. Went to the library and exercised. Watched Star Trek and tried ouzo, an interesting drink though I suspect a lot of people wouldn't care for the flavor
Today headed out bird watching, going to try the new monopod my BIL got me for Christmas. While it's certainly easier to use than a tripod I'm not sure how helpful I will find it. Then will have lunch with dad and will likely start a new no knead bread recipe I found. The Svengoolie movie is a bit dull so I'm going to watch the opera Lohengrin instead
Chillier day today, only getting up to the upper 30s. Thankfully no rain or snow
