It is going on one year that I had started my application process for SARP. I was finally accepted in June 2019 and it has been a true eye-opener. I was of the understanding that this was a REHABILITATION program, LOL what a joke. They do nothing to truly help the individuals who apply for this program. In fact, they don't even return calls in a timely manner, they have horrible communication with the drug testing company (whom I have more interaction with than I do the board), and they never check in to see how your recovery in doing until they want to accuse you of something. I have been extremely compliant with ALL their requirements and today I receive a letter stating I need to come in due to their suspicion of my not complying with my CASP. I'm not worried at all but this entire experience has been ridiculous and I still have 2.5 years to go. Anyone else deal with these types of issues in their programs??

If you are in need of a lawyer, TAANA is a good resource for lawyers familiar with nursing licensure.
When my sister started the program it was 5 years and then changed but they didn't let her change from 5 to 3. My sister was in it for bc 8 years and just recently decided to call it quits. Every time she had a call or confrontation with them she would then get a failed drug test and we all know she's not using it was a weird coincidence. It was also a failed drug test always the exact same minuscule amount (basically a piece of dust) she even did hair follicle tests to prove she wasn't using and then SARP would say they wouldnt use the hair follicle results because the first test showed some use.
So good luck to anyone in this completely *** program they call rehabilitation.
I will go as far as to say it's terrifying. I'm reading this at 5am after waking from such a stressful nightmare related to being in a horrible place not being able to get out. I had a relapse 3 yrs ago and aside from jail this has to be the worst punishment. If I wasn't in nursing for 35 yrs and had another career path I think I would give up my license rather than go through this. When I relapsed I had finished the coursework in my NP Program with 2 semesters of practicum to go. Im just so far in it was my only viable choice. I chose to pursue a master's in psychology degree so I can have something accomplished while in this SARP prison. I truly am not grateful to be a recovering alcoholic bc it has permanently colored my entire life. So I'm very supportive and intimately appreciate the dynamics of addiction and relapse. When I go back and finish my psych NP I know I can naturally interact with my patients and make prudent decisions on their behalf.
I don't think SARP tries to be a rehab program despite the name. At the end of the day they monitor-and the biological monitoring for substances is less than perfect. Therefore one is at at the mercy of those urine, blood, and hair tests that can be false positive and every nuance possible.
Best to all in this program It's like the Hunger Games.

Hi @Tyson
my sister is currently in somewhat of a legal battle with SARP. We think because of her unwillingness to back down they are taking it out on her. She’s ended up with a few failed drug test which they claim her urine had a nano gram of fentanyl in it. (It’s always a nano gram. ) after receiving that failed she’s gone ahead and done hair follicle tests which always come back negative for any drugs and SARP (even though they ordered the test) refuse to acknowledge them. She’s suppose to be seen by the board over 2 years ago and they keep cancelling with no reasoning. I can’t give an exact reason why it’s been so long as we have no idea ourselves but I think they are trying to get as much money as possible and are waiting for my sister to give up and quit the program.
